This hotel was booked for us by a Travel Company specialising in Walking Holidays. I was a little concerned about the mixed reviews.
We had no problem finding the place. It was signed once we got to La Lechuza. We also had good typed instructions from our holiday company. The hotel was on the SatNav although TomTom tried to take us down an unpassable road (It did this several times in Gran Canaria). I found the wooden gates awkward to drive the hire car through. I live in the UK. It was a LEFT hand drive car and I had only just picked it up from the airport. There is a tight turn off a single track road which is a little awkward.
Once there we were greeted by Marilyn and Michael who were very helpful. It was hot and we were grateful for the cool beers in the minibar in the room. We had pre-booked one meal and had a second meal at the hotel 2 nights later. The 3 course meal was charged at 20 Euros for an adult and 10 euros for a child (Under 13). The food was fine. There were a selection of wines from 10-17euros a bottle. We ate out on our second night but as this involved a drive out and back in the dark we only did this the once. One couple chose to walk to San Mateo (~45mins) as they did not have a car.
The garden and grounds are lovely and relaxing. There is a nice lounge/reading room although we didn't really use it.
Breakfasts were simple. The orange juice was lovely. There is a selection of bread, cheeses, cooked meats and some cereals. There were also a few yoghurts and plenty of tea/coffee. Breakfast was not until 0900 -although you could go in a little earlier. I can see how this would irritate people if you want an early walk. Howeverwe had to drag our teenage son out of bed at ~0845 each morning so the 0900 breakfast was not an issue for us. Packed lunches were available from ~8euros. We used them twice and were happy with them. There are plenty of walks within a relatively short distance of the hotel and I would recommend the hotel to anyone who wants to walk then have some peace and quiet in the evening.
