“Nice but not a lot happening ”
Reviewed 11 October 2013 via mobile

I have recently returned after a week at the hotel, overall very clean good staff etc. one thing it really lacks is atmosphere. I would strongly recommend hiring a car for this location as once you have walked into town there is very little to do . The hotel is clean and the pool area is cleaned everyday. This hotel is advertised as a spa hotel but you have to pay 25 euro just to enter the spa , even as a guest !!!!!! The treatments seemed to be a little pricey. I did go out of season but I found the restaurant menu very limited, bit you are kind of stuck as there is not much else around. If you want to relax by the pool and do nothing for a week then I recommend

This hotel has a wonderful spa! I would say this is one of the very best bits. The rooms were clean and spacious and all seem to have lovely views.

Unfortunately there are some really disappointing aspects such as not atmosphere, very quiet hotel, nothing seems to happen in or around the hotel. The hotels bar is very dull and there seems to be no local bars either. This is very disappointing when your rushed though dinner and wanting to carry on the night - going back to the room and sitting around alone as a couple isn't always the atmosphere you want. On occasions yes but every night for a week ... no.

Staff were up and down! Reception seemed very friendly and mostly very keen to help you if they can. However spa staff not so good - a little impatient and slightly rude with their tones at times. Bar staff again mostly very good. Restaurant staff very ... strange! Only two members of the restaurant staff were any good. The other few were very rude, interrupted you when you’re trying to ask or explain something, and generally didn't have anytime for you - They wanted to get in , get out and get done - not good. However the two who were good were the complete opposite.

Unfortunately I would visit this hotel again purely because of the location - I could have looked past the staff but it’s just one of those things!

We expected much more of this hotel and would not turn back here.
1) upon arrival at 15.00 hrs we were told that until the evening it will be mission impossible to get something to eat throughout the hotel. That is really lousy for being a 4* hotel! The cook left the hotel at 3 in the afternoon and that should mean that noone else could prepare a salad or sandwich? What a shame!
2) we stayed in a Junior Suite. Furniture was nice, nothingto complain about that. But no bathtub in a Junior Suite is a no go...
3) the hotel is far away from the beach. There is a long and steep path leading down, and up again...
4) pool area is nice
5) pool bar/restaurant is terrible. TWO tables outside, and all the others are inside a glass covered restaurant. Can you imagine the dreadful heat inside there when it is 30 degrees in the shade?
6) there is no possibility for room service - poor!
7) the restaurant (breakfast and dinner) has absolutely no sea views, it is located behind the hotels entrance. I did not like it at all to dine here... If I spend a holiday on the sea I want to SEE, HEAR AND FEEL the proximity of the ocean. Here this is not possible...
All in all to me this is a hotel which lacks of roots and a good soul. It is just planted there...
Agaete is worth a visit if you want to discover Agaete Valley which is really pretty. Otherwise there are much better places on Gran Canaria...

We spent a weekend at this lovely hotel by the dramatic cliffs of Agaete. In general, we were very pleased with our stay. The bedroom was really big -even with an extra bed for the kid- and had a huge balcony overlooking the pool and sea view. The decor is simple but nice and cleanliness very good. Complimentary water in the fridge. There is a winding footpath that leads to the beautiful rock pools right next to the ocean. The pools have ladders and areas for lying down, though they are not very easy to access for people with reduced mobility. The whole seascape surrounding the hotel is gorgeous!
Breakfast was average for a 4 star: lots of pastries, some cheese and ham, limited warm options and coffee serving machine (average too). They offer an afternoon tea at 5 with iced tea and biscuits -until they run out of them-. That's a nice touch if you spend the afternoon by the pool. There is quite a big jacuzzi and plenty of sunloungers.
It is a shame that the restaurant was closed at lunchtime, since one day there were 40 degrees and we had to drag ourselves to the village when we'd have eaten at the hotel. Puerto de las Nieves is a pleasant but tiny fisherman's town with a few good fish eateries by the beach; we liked Las Nasas.
IN general, a very good hotel which can improve things like catering located in an isolated but gorgeous location.

Room Tip: Choose one overlooking the pool and the sea.

This is a place to stay in. I enjoyed the great views from my room and chilling out in the spa... I have spent three magic days here and have not put a foot out of the resort. Staff very friendly. Very interesting mix of guests from different countries, which I like a lot. The restaurant is good, but I found it a bit overpriced

Room Tip: Get the superior plus room or the junior suite and you get free access to the spa anytime. This is r...

The hotel is in a remote area in calm and relaxing environment. There aren't many eating options nearby so it is better to have a car. The rooms are big and clean. The swimming pool area is quite pleasant with enough sun beds ( it would be nice if the hotel could provide some beach towels) . The afternoon tea at 5pm is a nice touch tough. Had a massage in the spa which was good at a reasonable price. Breakfast is average.

Room Tip: Rooms in the ground floor have direct access to the pool.

The hotel itself is fine, the rooms are clean and look good (it's all pretty new still). We used the spa and had it all to ourselves wich was nice. It's a pretty spa but the temperature of the saunas was not really hot enough.
The reason I would never go back to this hotel is the restaurant. On the first evening of our stay we decided to eat there.. what a disaster. First of all the lights were very bright, like fluorescent lights. The service was weird, they had some complicated system of buffet combined with service wich we didn't understand (and they didn't bother to explain). Every dish of our course would come right after the other. We didn't actually have time to finish the first before the next and definitely no time to use the buffet as well. Everything we got served was under- or overcooked or just plain gross. Breakfast (in the same restaurant) was just like that.. everything floating in fat on a buffet, hardly any fresh things. Lemonade instead of juice, bad coffee.. i could go on and on!
The other restaurant (the Italian one) of the hotel was ok though but nothing too interesting. Going to one of the lovely fish restaurants in Agaete is a much better idea, but it takes some time to walk into town.. and it means that in the evening you have to walk downhill in the dark (partly not lighted path) and ofcourse back up again when you return to the hotel
Not a place I would ever come back to.
