This English speaking restaurant sells the freshest fish landed on the harbour below. I enjoyed a dish of freshly baked Hake with garlic and olive oil. The prices are modest and a great atmosphere.

Chose this restaurant for it's location although we ended up at a table under the awning as it was windy on the terrace. Great, fresh fish, great service, relaxed and informal - as it should be! And excellent value for money. The house white is more than acceptable and the homemade cheesecake is worth leaving a space for...

We wandered the town late at night and found this great outdoor restaurant with fish grilling in the open. The hospitality was very welcoming and the simple fare, very very good.

We have been eating at this restaurant every time we come to the area. The quality and freshness of the fish is, for us, unbeatable. This is not grand food, but simple food, beautifully and simply cooked. I don't understand the reviews that talk about the main courses not having vegetable accompaniment, That is how it is done in this part of Spain. You can order french fries or salad if you want, of course. Also, for us, the service is marvellous; always delightful young waiter and waitresses and a patron who always remembers us from year to year. My culinary year would be much poorer if I don't visit the Mayflower at least twice a year!!

We visited Getaria from San Sebastián by bus for the day with the intention of having lunch at one of the seafood restaurants. We picked the Mayflower in passing as it has a great outlook to the harbour and the smell of fish cooking on the coals drew us in. We chose monkfish (rape in Spanish and aka the poor man's lobster) on the recommendation of the waiter and it was delicious. The fish was cooked to perfection over coals with garlic and seasoning. We also chose a mixed salad which was very good with lettuce, tomato, fish, egg, asparagus, and olives. Our only criticism is the service was indifferent initially but improved as the lunch progressed. This early lack of attention was at their cost as we were keen to order another beer before our meal arrived but could not easily attract the waiter's attention! Notwithstanding the service, we would recommend this restaurant for the fish alone.
