We walked to Getaria along a stretch of the Camino de Santiago from Zumaia. It was a blistering hot day and it was refreshing to sit under an umbrella overlooking the bustling fishing harbour. The food we had was simple and good quality, just what we needed.

We ate here 2times and both of them were very good for the fish, we had besugo (great) and sardines and the second time fish soup and red mullet both good, we also had a chuleta that was not as good as the fish. The price was not cheap but reasonable. I would recommend it.

Half an hour drive from San Sebastian, you will arrive at the beautiful seaside town of Geteria. With the ports just right beside the restaurant, you get a spectcular view while enjoying your food. Some reviews commented in a negative light that it's more like a cafe rather than a restaurant which I find works in their favor given the background context. Give me the sea breeze with the sunlight any day while enjoying the freshest seafood paired with their local whites..it can't get any better than this!

We tried their fried calamari for starters and had monkfish for mains. The fried calamari was pretty alright, light batter complemented the sweetness of the squid. However, the star of the meal was definitely without question the roasted monkfish with garlic, dry chilli and parsley. It was the first time we tried having heard its a poor man lobster. We were so glad to have tried this as we were also thinking of trying turbot.

We have not heard of monkfish before and the white flesh tasted succulent and naturally sweet, not much condiments were needed, just charcoal grilled and roasted to bring out the natural taste. The juices that accompanied the fish were so fresh like it was literally the best fish we have tasted! The texture and bite of the flesh resembles quite closely that of a lobster. What a treat and a first time introduction to this fish!! :)

the fish was excellent (turbot for two) and the service was very friendly even with our poor spanish. We were on the covered terrasse warmed with a heater as it was a cold may evening...on a warm summer evening it must be delightful as it looks directly out onto the fishing boats. The fish here was extremely fresh...only natural for a fishing port...but not necessarily always true.
