A very nice small family-run hotel with an outstanding restaurant. We had a spacious, comfortable, quiet room. The bathroom was roomy with good counter space. There was a good hot and cold breakfast with homemade pastries in a pleasant room. The garden area in back was a pleasant place to relax after a day of touring. The swimming pool is bigger than it looks in the pictures. The Razzi family are friendly, helpful and their service is five-star.

Room Tip: The blue suite if available.

A lovely restaurant with great food and a huge wine list, coupled with a lovely refreshing pool and garden, set in some brilliant countryside with fantastic villages nearby to visit and run by a lovely couple with some great staff. A must for cyclists too as there is nothing better than returning from an awesome ride, to jump in the pool and then be fed some lovely fresh local food!

We stayed here for two nights after our walking tour of the Barolo trail. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The garden and pool in the back were great. The food, however was absolutely magnificent!... Returning to our bedroom after dinner to find the beds turned down, a chocolate on the pillows and a note from our host, was quite simply over the top.

Master Chef Carlos Zarri and family made us feel so welcomed into their home. The food was incredible along with each wine selection. The Villa San Carlos staff was warm and took great pride in serving us. I know I will return someday soon.

I had expected our group visit this June 2013 to the Villa San Carlo to be astoundingly great, but it way exceeded all expectations. Carlo Zarri, superb chef, and his delightful wife, Paola, sommeliere, welcomed our group with open arms. The cuisine was world class, the rooms were spacious and well appointed and the area of Le Langhe is lush and gorgeous and the dramatic hills with castles perched atop them and covered with hazelnut groves and endless vineyards is wonderful to experience.
Our cooking lesson with Chef Zarri was one we'll never forget and our group actually made the gnocchi we had for dinner...as only one of our 5 courses. The warmth and welcoming Zarri family made everyone's time there one they will never forget.

The warmth and friendly hospitality of the Family Zarri was evident throughout my four night stay at the picturesque Hotel Ristorante Villa San Carlo. The hand-written welcome note on the desk after dinner on the first evening was just the beginning of the continued thoughtfulness and attention to detail I experienced during my stay. My clean & comfortable room was cozy and had plenty of wonderful Italian towels. The ample breakfast buffet and plenty of delicious coffee got us off to a happy start each morning.

The Villa, located in Cortemilia, was our central base for day trips to experience the Piedmont area & aspects of the local culture recommended by Carlo such as wine tastings, a visit to a nougat factory and a drive surrounded by rolling hills along the “hazelnut road“.

Each evening, internationally renowned Master Chef Carlo Zarri and his wife Paola, a sommelier, ensured the cuisine was perfectly presented and paired with a wine choice to highlight the superb preparation and taste of each course. Fresh locally grown & produced ingredients used in the old Piedmontese recipes in the traditional ways made each bite a joy to savor. I enjoyed the glimpse behind the scenes in the kitchen of Chef Carlo, his cooking demonstration and our hands-on participatory creation of gnocchi which we later enjoyed as part of a fabulous dinner with a desert of hazelnut “grandmother‘s” pudding.

My time here with the Zarri family was the unforgettable pinnacle of this trip to Italy.
