We stayed one night on our way back up to the Tunnel in this hotel having booked it online. the room for 4 was two double beds and was very smart and comfortable. Very nice bathroom, immaculate throughout. You can pay 5 euros extra to park your car in their tiny carpark otherwise it's the street. We paid the 110 Euros as there was an outdoor swimming pool we were hoping to use but sadly the weather was too nippy. We didn't go for the breakfast as 8 euros for a french style breakfast seemed exhorbitant. The couple who we presume own it are fairly elderly, and give the impression that really they've had enough, and are sort of doing you a favour.
Short walk into the town centre where there are loads of nice places to eat. I would describe this as 'good' except Tripadvisor don't have that category! It's above average but not very good, if you see what I mean.

Argenton is a very nice, pretty place to break a trip to the south of France or Spain. First impressions of the hotel are good. it has a pool and a terrace. Rooms a fine. Nothing special. it is a old building where everything is of wood so you hear your neighboors. The owner wasn't very interested in us. He seemed to be bored with running this hotel. Parking cost € 5,- but there is a parking around the corner for free.

Room Tip: Upper floor.

We made the reservation for this hotel at least 3 weeks in advance. We stated specifically to the Madame that we required secure parking and a room to accommodate two well travelled dogs. We were two couples travelling together in two old cars all around France. We had a pleasant conversation with the Madame about our trip and why these requests were necessary, one car could not be locked securely and she was jovial and very welcoming at this time. Once we were near Argenton, our friends were having mechanical problems. I called the Madame, stated who we were as per our previous conversation and let her know that we'd be about an hour later than anticipated, but that we were definitely coming, she said it was no problem. Once we arrived, the weather turned nasty and rainy, but we made our way through the narrow back streets to find a very pretty setting, nice manor house and a completely full parking lot. We pulled in to the smaller second lot and the Monsieur came out of the house, waving his arms demanding we back out immediately. We got out of the car and explained that we had reserved a parking area for our cars. He would have nothing of it and just kept shouting. Finally, the Madame arrived at the front door and also directed us out, albeit in a more calm tone. She informed us we'd have to park on the street. We finally talked her into letting us at least park the smaller (AH Sprite) in a small cove if we promised to take full responsibility for it...the second car was left outside the walled parking area. After a stressful day, we asked if we could have a few drinks in the garden before walking to dinner. We were served, but the dogs were not allowed into the garden...this is the only space at this hotel besides the packed parking area. The next morning, we were off to the breakfast room and were told dogs were not permitted there either, nor could we have breakfast in our spacious room. So as it rained, my husband took the dogs out while I ate, I took them outside in the rain while he ate. However, we both separately ''enjoyed'' the company of the three rambuncious 3 to 4 year olds who screeched and cried during breakfast.

For the hotel, it was clean and nicely located. The rooms were spacious and the decor interestingly dated, but charming enough. The proprietors were not. We made arrangements with them stating exactly what our situation was and they were in total agreement when the reservation was made, we didn't have our parking as promised, nor was this a dog friendly hotel as stated. It was a real disappointment as it was one of the first of our journey, happy to say though everything that followed was very good to terrific.

This is a fine old manor house with its wonderfully characterful little courtyard with just room for guests' cars.
We saw a sign to it and followed more through the narrow little streets to eventually arrive almost back at the river at the Manoir.
We got a room with a via of the Creuse and were a short walk via the river of the town. The public rooms on the ground floor were impressively furnished and comfortably lived-in. The way the the first floor room was a bit tired and the room itself was a bit of a shock. It was done in which I guess was the old style, the wall dressing more like wall-hangings than wallpaper and in an elegant historic-looking pattern.
Once we got used to it, the dominating walls of the high-ceilinged room were actually very impressive. The bed was comfortable and the room and ensuite clean. The only downsides were the somewhat haphazard extras like incongruous fridge TV and chairs. The view of the river and the general ambiance of this great building made the overall experience memorable.
We were there in December so could not take advantage of the lovely garden and pool area.
We will return.

Room Tip: Riverside view best but courtyard would be good too.

We make the booking with booking.com and have been overcharged. Also were told breakfast was included - then charged 8 euros each for a croissant!
Parking is a nightmare.
Rooms are dark.
No hairdryers.

Room Tip: Take a torch so you can find your belongings when packing!

We happened to find this hotel mid way through a very long drive and decided to stop in this very pretty town. for the price of the room (75Euro - room in the annex with view of parking but still charming none the less) we found it a very good stop over hotel.
there is a pool and a pretty terrace but nothing is really catered for and there is no option to order a few drinks or anything in fact when we asked we were told to go to town which is a shame as the hotel grounds are charming but you do feel that the persons in charge are happy not to have too many guests.
We were glad to go to town as we had a great dinner ( entrecôte with real fries and lots of wine) and a very pretty walk down by the river with all the homes back lit, very pretty, romantic little town. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was clean and new with plenty of hot water, soundproofing was ok. Flimsy courtains let in all the light and we were woken by people passing in the courtyard in the morning but as we had to continue our drive it didn't bother us. We didn't have Breakfast there but opted to have it in a cafe in town and I think that was a good choice. you can get a good breakfast coffee/chocolate/tea with bread butter jam and a pastry plus juice for about 5 euro in the big cafe in the centre of town.
Overall I would say a good stop over hotel if you can get a good price as we did, don't plan to spend any time in the room or in the hotel grounds as you are not made to feel too welcome, we sat outside and read the papers for 30 min but felt that we were intruding on the people(the owners i guess?), it's a shame as we did have a very enjoyable time in the town but feel that with a bit more professionalism this hotel can easily be a relais chateaux or a hotel de charme category.

Room Tip: try to get a room on the upper floor in the main building - these have views over the river!

This is a beautifully renovated 18th century manor house in Argenton-sur-creuse, right at the center of France's myriad of medieval villages. Recently purchased by new owners, the family now has really put it all together: it's spotless, well priced, they are very friendly and a pleasure to deal with. A pristine clean swimming pool added a nice touch to an enormous garden, and breakfast with abundant fresh croissants and delicious coffee topped off an excellent night's sleep in a clean and comfortable bed.
