We stayed one day at La Villa and it's by far the most beautiful hotel I've seen in the region. The service was absolutely warm and welcoming - we were greeted by a really nice staff member who helped us with the luggage. The hotel is distributed into multiple houses. Even though we had a room without any views to the lake, they have a really nice terrace where you can hang out. The view to the lake is breathtaking.
They also prepared us delicious sandwiches as a snack. The hotel feels really like a family-style hotel, we even didn't have to sign something after the lunch. Interior is typically bavarian.
We'd return anytime.
Only small downside: Our room didn't have an hotel safe (or at least I couldn't find it).
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- King Ludwig I of Bavaria presented the lake-front property to the merchant Angelo Knorr in 18TK as a sign of his gratitude for Knorr’s provision of flour during a famine. In the years from 1853 to 1855 Knorr had a country villa in the Italian style built on the site, to a design of Arnold Zenetti—who with this project became the founder of Lake Starnberg’s renowned "villa culture".Through the years, while many of the area’s elegant old villas were torn down or completely rebuilt in a modern style, the diminutive "Knorr palace" was lucky, for it retained its original features. Having been sensitively restored according to historical-preservation guidelines, La Villa conveys to the modern visitor the extraordinary charm of these elegant old villas. All the modern comforts are provided, but without intruding on the character of the historic ensemble. ... more less
