“Very nice conference center. Great food. Poor noise management.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 February 2014

Was there for a 24h business seminar. Very nice facility and beautiful grounds and views of the lake.
The food was very attractive and tasty and offering great variety for breakfast, tailoring the many nationalities in our group.

The only drawback was lack of noise insulation between rooms in one of the quaint pavilions for examples or my room in the main building (just one flight of stairs up and clearly way too close to the kitchen). Avoid room #11 and neighboring rooms if you need any form of quiet to sleep.

Otherwise a very pleasant business experience.

Room Tip: Avoid room #11 and anything close to it. Too close to the busy kitchen.

I stayed at this hotel for a business meeting and then a year end celebration. The facilities are very nice with a spectacular view of Lake Starnberg.

The good:
The facilities are well maintained.
The room was comfortable and well heated.
The staff was very helpful and friendly.
The internet is included in the room rate.
A relatively simple breakfast buffet.

The not-so-good:
The WiFi service slowed down considerably one evening and was not restored until the next day.
A wider variety of items on the breakfast buffet.
No fitness center and the jogging path on the lake is not nearby.

All, in all good, but I am not sure I would stay at the hotel unless it's part of a business meeting.

I stayed in Hotel La Villa for a business meeting, and whilst the hotel had a lot of plus points it also had a couple of big negative ones.

On the plus side, the setting is wonderful with lawns stretching down to the lake, the service is very friendly and the food is also very good.

But for me there were also two big negatives. The first was my room. It was on the ground floor with french windows opening out onto the main courtyard and an external staircase that cut straight across the other window. The result was a complete lack of privacy unless I had the windows closed and the curtains shut, and the lack of air-conditioning meant that the room got very hot. I was also somewhat surprised that a hotel of this standard didn't provide a bar of soap in the bathroom, relying instead on the sort of liquid soap dispensers you get in cheap motels!

The other problem was the flies. I was told that the unusual weather had contributed to a boom in the fly population but I found it quite unpleasant in the dining room constantly having to swat away large numbers of flies from my food and drink.

Maybe at another time of year and in a different room I would have had a better experience, but on this occasion I didn't enjoy my stay.

Room Tip: Don't accept a ground floor room - they have no privacy!

We stayed one day at La Villa and it's by far the most beautiful hotel I've seen in the region. The service was absolutely warm and welcoming - we were greeted by a really nice staff member who helped us with the luggage. The hotel is distributed into multiple houses. Even though we had a room without any views to the lake, they have a really nice terrace where you can hang out. The view to the lake is breathtaking.

They also prepared us delicious sandwiches as a snack. The hotel feels really like a family-style hotel, we even didn't have to sign something after the lunch. Interior is typically bavarian.

We'd return anytime.

Only small downside: Our room didn't have an hotel safe (or at least I couldn't find it).

I had not personally visited this hotel before we held a business event recently with some key customers, and I'd had some concerns about how well prepared it might be. As it turned out the hotel and facilities were excellent (with the sole exception of the WiFi service, which was, when available, very slow). The food & drinks served at dinner & lunch were exceptionally good, and the hotel staff were friendly, accommodating and very professional. The hotel location and lakeside surroundings provided absolutely the right atmosphere for a business meeting.

We visited this hotel for a wedding
Food was superb, service excellent
It is in a lovely position overlooking the lake with direct access to the water

We stayed an extra night but be warned they do not do lunch or dinner unless it is part of an event
No tea/coffee in the room but it was available downstairs

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
King Ludwig I of Bavaria presented the lake-front property to the merchant Angelo Knorr in 18TK as a sign of his gratitude for Knorr’s provision of flour during a famine. In the years from 1853 to 1855 Knorr had a country villa in the Italian style built on the site, to a design of Arnold Zenetti—who with this project became the founder of Lake Starnberg’s renowned "villa culture".Through the years, while many of the area’s elegant old villas were torn down or completely rebuilt in a modern style, the diminutive "Knorr palace" was lucky, for it retained its original features. Having been sensitively restored according to historical-preservation guidelines, La Villa conveys to the modern visitor the extraordinary charm of these elegant old villas. All the modern comforts are provided, but without intruding on the character of the historic ensemble. ... more   less
