We have always wanted to stop off here, and are very glad that we finally did. On a sunny day it is (understandably) a very popular place. I recommend parking elsewhere as the pub’s car park is tiny (there is a public car park a few minutes’ walk away).
We were very lucky and got a table right by the river. The whole outdoor area is lovely, with gorgeous, peaceful views of the river. The inside of the pub looked very nicely decorated too, so I would definitely still come even if we couldn’t sit outside.
The wine was lovely and very reasonably priced. There was a bit of a wait for food but this suited us, as we could just relax by the water with our sauvignon blanc. We thought the food was great; it was interesting to see sweet potato chips being served as well as the usual ones, and they were tasty.
The best bit of my fish and chips was actually the mushy peas, which were obviously home-made. Delicious!
The menu was extensive so there is something for everyone. The sharing platters in particular looked very appetising, especially when we saw them being brought out the kitchen to another table.
Service was good throughout and we would definitely come back to this pub for lunch.
