“Great quality food and such a friendly hostess”
Reviewed 14 July 2013 via mobile

Popped in here on way home from new forest. Immediately struck by friendliness of hostess, she was a real character and a lot of fun. Ordered the usual dishes, all very tasty and freshly cooked. Tried a sizzling king prawn too which was ace. Only one other couple in the restaurant but they were clearly regulars as they were calling the hostess by her first name. Other half asked me to mention the ribs which were very good. Not sure what the negative comments on here are about, I go to a restaurant for food and not the decor. It's all fine, what counts is the food and it's great, the funny hostess is a cool bonus. Try it!

“Good service and great food!”
Reviewed 3 July 2013

Loved this little restaurant, had a takeaway rather than eat in. The lady that served us was lovely and friendly. The food was great. Had rice with huge chunks of chicken and pork in it, this did come in a slight gravy but was really nice. The sweet and sour chicken balls and the ribs were probably the best I've ever tasted!!! Very lucky chance try for a holiday take away. Only thing I will say is that the chilli beef is a little bit over saucy but is spicy and hot so can't complain too much. Would definatly recommend!

“Improved Greatly”
Reviewed 10 December 2012

I wanted to write this review following a recent sit down meal at the restaurant following a prolonged (several years) period of not using the Peking Restaurant, despite it being one of only a few sit down Chinese restaurants in our rural area, and so convenient to negate the need of driving some distance for an eat in Chinese meal.

We have lived in the area for over fifteen years now and used to use The Peking for takeaway meals. We stopped because the food was very greasy, and items such as Mongolian Lamb were closer to burnt rather than crispy - all this consistently regardless of when or what we ordered.

Following a conversation with friends recently we decided to give the restaurant another try due to their positive feedback. We booked a sit down meal with the same friends.

What a difference! The food is not perfect but very much better, and a lot of what we had was good. I hope this improvement continues. The said Mongolian lamb was good, and combined Chinese spices with lamb cooked just right. The spare ribs were delicious and meaty but not greasy, and the rice full of flavour and again, not greasy.

The decoration inside the restaurant leaves something to be desired, but, the lady owner and her colleague are extremely friendly and pleasant.

Taking the interior into account, times appear to have been tough, as is common for a lot of hostelries in rural England currently. A comprehensive and thought out advertising campaign and a investment in the interior would help, but, these are aesthetics which while important are not the main reason for visiting a restaurant; the food being centre stage. And, the centre stage event deserves at least a try...

So in all: A huge improvement and going in the right direction. Worth a try, and, if custom does increase, lets hope it is enough to enable a re-decoration of the interior, as the efforts so far by the team deserve this chance...
