Saw this place last August as it was in the process of changing hands/closing down!! It has now re-opened as a restaurant with accommodation and the food was excellent. Ideal for us as we are staying within walking distance!!!

We stumbled across The Compasses Inn, whilst lost on our travels. We stopped for Sunday lunch. All staff we came across was very polite and friendly. My wife had roast lamb, I had roast chicken, Faultless. We ordered pudding, minor complaints. My wife had cheesecake, which came in a small glass had to dig deep to get to base. I had eaton mess, a bowl of cream don't be so stingy on the meringue. Excellent atmosphere would 100% visit again

Came to The Compasses for lunch and was pleased with the food and the vibe. Very friendly and very chilled out in the garden. Child friendly and relaxed. Fell asleep in the yurt afterwards.

Garden needs some TLC but I am sure this the least of their worries. Will come back for sure as food was really good and fresh and gorgeous chips too!

The Compasses has a lovely garden with some exotic seating and decoration as well as standard table and chairs. It is spacious inside as well. Menu was very interesting and the food we had was excellent. Would definitely recommend for a meal.

It was almost impossible to decide on an overall rating here as the following will hopefully make clear.
We were staying nearby and this was our first night. Unknown to us they had a very large function going on in the garden, the combination of dealing with this together with the inexperience of some of the staff resulted in some very poor service. There was then a major problem with my starter (which I won't detail ) which left me in a very negative mood.
In a typically English way we hadn't complained about any of this - when our main courses (which were very good) arrived we were told that the whole meal(including drinks) was on the house! I thought this was very generous. We were asked to give their evening service another go later in the week but unfortunately weren't able to do so.
For reasons too complicated to go into we had breakfast here the next morning - this was excellent and represented superb value for money.
