As my girlfriend and I rode our ATV from Naoussa around the north and eastern side of the island into Drios, we stopped first at a local hand made gift shop by the sea. Knowing that we wanted to try Anna's based on the reviews here, I asked the friendly jewelry maker (who also went by the name of Anna) if she knew of the restaurant. Of course! Anna was the mayor's wife, and a friend of hers. She then didn't hesitate to write us a little note to hand off, saying hello and asking the restaurant's Anna to take good care of her friends. Though no address was available, we were told that we could find this gem in the town center, across from a market. Sure enough, a few minutes later on our quad wheeler and we were there.
Immediately greeted with big smiles, we were shown everything that was on display in the cases out front, and subsequently welcomed into the kitchen to see what was cooking. This restaurant will prepare family size portions of several dishes (there had to have been some 15 - 20 different selections), and will individually portion and heat your choices to order.
Among the many choices, we asked for a variety of favorites and decided to sample the aubergine (eggplant) sliced in half with all sorts of amazing stuffing, a wonderfully roasted tomato with an intensely flavorful herbaceous stuffing, a creamy chicken and mushroom stew with golden potatoes that can only be described as heaven on my tongue, tender local island beef with okra, and of course a gift of their zesty and unbelievably moist orange cake with ice cream. There was not a bad bite to be had, everything was spectacularly flavorful and delicious.
Anna as our host and first greeting was wonderful, capably handling her duties between the kitchen, dining room and telephone with skill and grace. Our server was also extremely pleasant, excited for us on our vacation and willing to speak frankly about the island's best areas, after we inquired.
I often find myself reminiscing of this restaurant and out of every place that we ate over this particular three week vacation, it is Restaurant Anna and Karina All Day Taverna on Paros that won my heart and make me yearn to return to Greece for another round!
