“Incredible, helpful staff.”
Reviewed 6 April 2013 via mobile

We only stayed at Hotel Niwa for one night and arrived late, but I have to say how incredible the staff were. We had just arrived from Narita Airport and needed to chase up a missing piece of luggage. The staff rang JAL for us and had arguments with them, all to get our bag back. They went above and beyond the call of duty! They even helped us by cleaning a baby bottle for us as all of our baby supplies were with the missing bag.

Apart from that, the hotel is very modern and stylish. Most of the staff speak very good English. The rooms are typical Japanese business hotel size (very small) but this never bothers us. The only minus is the location - the closest JR station is Suidobashi which is not on the most convenient line and the hotel is slightly tricky to find. Amenities are nearby but you'll need to walk 5-10 mins to reach them.

Overall, a lovely, comfortable hotel - worth the trek out.

I had the opportunity to know this Hotel on one of my many layovers in Tokyo into and out of China and Taiwan. All airport hotels were booked so I had to travel into the City to get a layover Hotel to catch my next flight in the morning. Arriving at Haneda Airport and leaving from Narita Airport on the next morning. Late night travel from Haneda Airport to Hotel was Either Taxi or Train, too late for Bus service...8,000 Yen Taxi was my cost. The hotel was well situated although a little confusion with the real entrance to the Hotel since it is on a one way street and a little hard to get to... Hotel appearance and atmosphere was very good, service was excellent and immediately the front desk clerk suggested to upgrade to a bigger size room for my comfort, since Hotel rooms in Tokyo are rather small and very expensive. I made a good Choice and upgraded. Room was comfortable and well appointed. Had the breakfast buffet in the morning, a bit pricy for US standards and selections were mostly for the Japanese, but still good choices for all. Taxi to CAT Bus terminal in the morning, with the help of front desk clerks, ( very friendly and willing to help) 2,000 YEN and a Bus ride to Narita Airport for 3,000 YEN. All was good and with out incidents... I would defiantly recommend this hotel as a good business option, but not a tourist option . A bit far and out of the way for layover though.

Room Tip: Choose bigger room options

By Tokyo standards the rooms are a good size. There is nothing I could fault with our stay at Niwa. Service was excellent and the decor is very pleasant, wi-fi speed is good. The location is actually quite good being right in the middle of several sightseeing locations. Yet despite the central location the hotel is quite and peaceful. Also very close to either the JR or subway. I'd definitely recommend this hotel for anyone passing through Tokyo.Next time we come to Tokyo we will stay at Niwa again.

A lot of people seemed to have commented favourably on the location which confuses me a little. I suppose for sightseeing it is at least equidistant from most of the key areas but to be honest I'd probably prefer locality to one or two rather than having to travel out to everywhere. But maybe I just didn't get to know the area well enough to realise the benefits of the location that others have. That said the hotel was very nice. Smart, clean and comfortable and exceptionally helpful and friendly staff.

Nice hotel, good service and great location at reasonable price. The room was spacious and beautifully decorated. The staff were on the whole pretty friendly. The staff is very attentive. There isn't one thing to say against it and absolutely everything to recommend it..

My mother and I stayed at the Hotel Niwa Tokyo, in a twin room and it was really quite lovely. As other reviews have stated, when coming in from Tokyo Station it is best to take the Chuo Line Rapid and transfer at Ochanomizu Station, you just walk across the platform to your train! At Suidobashi Station, you might be lucky and find a Hotel Niwa sign to direct you, or you might have to ask someone at the convenience store. It is a little tricky to find, but once you do, you'll realize the ingenuity of the location - silence. It is a quite little spot in Tokyo. Close enough to a train station, but far enough from the noise. While the hotel is near several restaurants, they appear to close down after 9pm, so just a warning.

We avoided the hotel breakfast as we were warned of it being Japanese in nature (i.e., lots of fish). There is, however, a Denny's 5 minutes' walk from the hotel if you must have a Western breakfast. Or you can visit one of the nearby convenience stores.

The details of the room were perfect. Lovely decor, delicious green tea, flat screen television, a bathroom with travel hairbrushes, and hotel-provided pajamas. Hotel Niwa is a great place to stay for some rest, but close enough to a train station to get out and see what you need to see!

Room Tip: Japanese hotels typically charge extra per each additional person in a room. Do not be surprised if...

I loved this hotel..from the tea service in the room to the vending machines outside our door in the lounge (on the 3rd floor) with hot cans of coffee! From the fresh pajamas every day to the little rock garden outside of the lounge. From the location only 3 blocks from Denny's (where one can get a breakfast with eggs, Canadian bacon AND miso soup), and only 3 blocks from 7-11 (the ONLY place where my ATM cards worked!). The location is perfect.. when you come in on the train from Narita, transfer to the Chuo line at Tokyo station, then hop off at Ochanomizu - walk across the platform to the local, and hop off at Suidobashi. Walk out of the East exit, turn right, go one block, and turn left. You'll see the Hotel Niwa sign - and feel a rush of relief. The price was fine (yes, it's $170 a night for 2 people. It's worth it!), and the neighborhood was full of places to eat and convenience stores - where you can buy beer, yogurt, sweets, and sandwiches. The staff is lovely and helpful, the halls are quiet, and the massage chairs are wildly popular.

Really, the rooms are plenty big (have you stayed in a hotel in Paris lately? Niwa felt spacious compared to rooms in Paris!), and the decor is soothing and just a touch of the exotic. Not only would I stay there again, I am envious of everyone staying there right now! You even have a little refrigerator, as well as a magnificent array of toiletries (toothbrush, hairbrush, swabs, soaps, etc.). It is the perfect place to collapse after a 13-hour flight, or after pounding the pavement to the tourist sites for 8 hours.
