Very helpful staff with somewhat limited English but friendly. Hotel is situated in an excellent area near to some great food/pubs 10 min walk. JR station is 5 min walk. Hotel is tidy and very smart - really enjoyed our stay.

I would totally recommend this hotel. This was our first hotel in Japan and set the bar very high - everyone's favourite. Even with our exceptionally limited Japanese they went out of their way to help us with other travel arrangements. It was clean and quiet and the breakfast had a good range of European and Japanese food. The standard double was on the small side (but bigger than I was expecting) but as we were out all day and most evenings, and we had a twin for the kids were we all met up on the few times we spent time in the hotel, it was not an issue. Washing machines and tumble driers off the vending area too - we didn't use them as it was the start of the holiday but we did need to do a wash later in the holiday - did not realise how quickly we would go through clothes in the heat and humidity - and had to go out of the hotel to in Kyoto to find a laundrette. Short walk to the nearest JR - ideal if you have a JR pass. Lots of places to eat just passed the station.

My favourite hotel in Tokyo so far in terms of value for money. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, and amenities provided are adequate. Rooms are a little on the small side, though probably average in Japan. Staff are very friendly and speak good English. The area where the hotel is located is quiet and away from the busy center, so you will need to take a train for most trips. However, this wasn't an issue for me as there are 2 stations close-by which were less than 5 minutes away.. plus it's nice to relax and get away from the rush of it all at the end of the day!

The hotel describes itself as " modern Japanese " and I think this sums it up. The rooms have paper screens at the windows and green tea making facilities but there is a blackout blind behind the paper screens and the beds are a European length. There is also a choice of pillows on the bed - firm or soft. There was a conference in the hotel at the time we were there but the staff, although busy, still made time to be helpful and friendly.

The hotel is in a quiet location but has good connections both on a JR local line and on a subway line. If you have a JR rail pass then this is a great location as the local JR line is on the cross Tokyo line and it connects wih the main JR loop line so you can get to most places in Tokyo using your pass for free. We travelled from here to Haneda airport in rush hour on the JR trains and monorail and it took about 50 minutes.

There are a lot of small restaurants near by and it is very near to the tokyo dome.

The buffet breakfast is good but expensive if it's not included on the price of your booking. We also tried the hotel's restaurant and it was very good although the service was a little slow.

Overall I think if you are looking for somewhere outside of the main bustle of Tokyo then this hotel is for you - we would definately stay again.

I stayed four nights in June in the context of a conference at the University of Tokyo. While I could have stayed closer to the University I opted for this haven based on previous Tripadvisor reviews. I did not regret my choice. Because I wanted some space I opted for a Superior Double room and felt comfortable throughout my stay. Situated close to both the Suidobashi metro station and the JR station, transport anywhere in Tokyo is no problem. I enjoyed the proximity to the Tokyo Dome, finding myself in a sea of blue the morning of Japan's soccer game which was broadcast from the stadium. One evening I enjoyed an exquisite meal at the Yukuri restaurant. The aesthetics of the whole place are exceptionally soothing and pleasing, suggestive of natural harmony. The usual care for amenities, pyjamas etc. which I have become used to in Japanese hotels was also applied here. The breakfast offerings are tasty and fresh. Spotlessly clean. I would stay again. Definitely.

Dear Wellingtonian,

Thank you for choosing Hotel Niwa Tokyo during your stay in Japan, and appreciated to have such a nice comments and recommendation of our hotel. It seems you had pleasant stay with us, and also liked our Japanese restaurant.
Our Japanese cuisine, “YUKURI” offers you experience authentic Japanese cuisine “”Kaiseki” while the other Provencal French restaurant “Grill & Bar Liu” dishes made from seasonal vegetables, prime-cut meats and poultry, and fresh-caught seafood.
Once again, thank you for your feedback, and hoping to be in your service again in near future.

As a small B&B owner in Australia and staying here at the moment I felt compelled to write a review on this excellent hotel . As previous reviewers have stated there is nothing to fault in this value for money boutique hotel with location being one of the top priorities very near to Tokyo Dome . Rooms are more than adequate thoroughly clean with fresh bedding and pillows changed every day plus complimentary bottled water what more can anyone traveller ask for . As for the staff I cannot praise them enough excellent English spoken and they were prompt in returning my email enquiries . Well done Niwa team.
