We went there for dinner after reading about in online, it didn't disappoint. We had great yakitori in a medium sized itzakaya and loved the way the restaurants were packed under the tracks. The northwestern part is a bit more upscale.

Just next to the glitzy shopping temples of Ginza, under the train tracks of Yurakucho one can find what I guess old style Tokyo must have looked like. Turn into the lesser bright alley ways and marvel at the selection of restaurants and food stalls that time apparently forgot.

There is still a lot of modern shopping, i.e. there is the only (to my knowledge) Bic Camera OUTLET store. Worth a look, but seems to be best for bigger items / white goods.

You can actually walk from Tokyo Station to Yurakucho station...i did. It has lots of cheap but good restaurants/food stalls. Shopping at Ginza starts here in my opinion. Mo's Cafe (Mo's burger) is also just round the corner from the station.

Just along the train tracks of the station, you will never want for anything to eat, day or night. All around you will find wonderful shops (Loft, Muji, Tokyu Hands, Printemps, IOIO, Hankyu Men's, and many others). Spend a whole day here!

Under the JR Yurakucho train tracks are a long stretch of yakitori restaurants, ramen spots, and bars from the northern to southern sections of the tracks. On weekdays especially, it is a popular spot for salarymen after work before catching the train home as part of their everyday commute. Establishments are found on the outer side of the tracks facing the main road. More treasure troves of drinking and eating spots that are not visible from the main road can be explored on foot as you make your way underneath the tracks and into pedestrian tunnels and alleyways. Our November visit here is cold but there is no stopping the Japanese from enjoying a night out with friends outdoors. Friends, food and drinks (Highball is a popular choice among the salarymen) are all that matters.
