“One of top tempura places”
Reviewed 3 October 2013

In the heart of Ginza, one of the best Tempura places, Kondo run by father and son, has gained two Michelin stars. And rightly so!
Sitting at the counter watching the chef at work , adds to the joy of taste

“fantastic service!”
Reviewed 30 September 2013

We arrived without a reservation and were neverthe less treated royally.
The delicious morsels on skewers kept coming and were a lovely way to eat.
The wine pairings that we asked for were perfect.

“Great tempura, but not cheap.”
Reviewed 21 August 2013

If you are curious about what tempura can be at its highest level, try this place. Omakase here ranges from US$100-180, depending on the set. Veggie, fish and shrimp tempura is served here. The veggies range from staples to lily bulbs and sweet corn. The uni (urchin) tempura was unique, as was the anago (sea eel) was great too. The batter is light and never greasy. The service is top notch. The setting is a light wood counter; there are some tables in an adjoining room. The senior chef and his sous chefs take pride in their craft. One of the sous chefs had dirty finger beds, which was not what I expected from a top rated restaurant. All in all, try this place out and experience tempura at its highest caliber.

“Two Michelin Stars Tempura Bar”
Reviewed 18 August 2013

We were lucky to have the master, the personable Kondo-san frying our tempura on our visit. There are two tempura pots, heated to different tempuratures and everything was light, crispy, and delicious. The omakase course was amazing...be sure to ask their seasonal offerings. On our visit, while many were enjoying the kabocha pumpkin, we chose myoga and corn(the corn is husked, hulled, and added to the tempura batter, which is then spooned into the tempura pot, spoonful by spoonful and fried for the longest time until the outside corn kernels were a toasty brown. Each kernel was bursting with sweetness. The purity in flavor of each vegetable, fish, eel, served made the tempura dipping sauce unnecessary. A sprinkle of salt was more than enough, the grated daikon oroshi with a splash of the tentsuyu sauce cleansing the palate between the many offerings. The tempura course is finished off with either Kakiage Tendon(my favorite), Kakiage Tencha(served ochazuke style with tea different from the hojicha served last), or Kakiage with rice. It was a complete experience as we were able to watch Kondo-san's assistants at work, preparing each ingredient(including the beheading of live shrimp) which was our first serving. My 14 year old was made to feel very welcome. Try the sweet potato when in season! The toilet flush button and bidet controls are on the wall! Reservations are a must.

“Top-notch tempura”
Reviewed 26 June 2013

It's great to have a place that specialise in just one type of food, whether you want tempura, eel, sushi, tofu, etc; Tokyo is my favourite city in the world. Kondo is a tempura place and these people know their business very well.

I don't really know why this restaurant is listed as "tempra Kondo" when in reality the name is simply "Kondo". Anyway, this is THE place to go if you want to experience tempura as its best. Among others - Prawns, asparagus, bamboo shots, small onions, eggplant and at the end a mix of scallops served on top of rice absolutely delicious.

Sweet potato is the signature tempura dish. You must order it before ordering your food because it takes about half an hour to cook and it's not included on the set menus.

We were two and only drank tea along with two set menus and the extra potato (one serve only is enough for two) and paid AUD$200
