Hotel Ryumeikan Tokyo

If you're going to be in Tokyo for a couple nights and you want to stay out late in the more lively spots, I would suggest staying in Shibuya or Shinjuku instead of Chuo, but if you are looking for a convenient, comfortable place to stay on your way in or out of Tokyo, I think this hotel is perfect. It's quite affordable for this area and it feels like a luxury hotel.

The location is very convenient - just two blocks from Tokyo Station where you can easily catch the Narita Express or Sobu Line to Narita airport. Tokyo Station is a huge transportation hub so you can pretty easily get anywhere in the city from here by subway or JR Train. There is a 24 hour convenience store right next door to the hotel. The area around this hotel is real swanky, which was fun to experience, at least for one afternoon.

The rooms are small and ours, on the 13th floor, lacked any kind of view, but they're so thoughtfully designed and decorated that you barely notice, and the bathroom was very spacious for a Tokyo Hotel - the shower was especially nice. I loved the little espresso maker they provided in the room. This was a great place to relax on our last night in Tokyo.

After 3 nights at the imperial palace, which was really O.T.T. for my tastes, this hotel came as a real nice surprise. The room are spacious, really well soundproofed and the location near Tokyo station is really practical. The service at the reception is a bit cold and intimidating : are 6 members of staff really required behind such a small counter ? Buffet breakfast was 100% Japanese but nice.

We stayed overnight at the Ryumeikan, between flying in from Sydney and departing by Shinkansen for Kyoto the next morning. It's a great location, a short walk from Tokyo Station, with plenty of local restaurants. The reception was smoothly efficient, the staff helpful, charming and english speaking and the room was delightful. (NB We booked a standard double which was spacious by Tokyo standards, and very comfortable. Smart decor and an amazing bathroom! The semi-double is much smaller but could accommodate 2 people at a squeeze.)

The only problem was that, arriving on Friday night around 7.30, most restaurants were full of office workers enjoying the end of the working week and seats were hard to come by!

The Hotel Ryumeikan is an excellent choice for visitors to Tokyo. It is located a few minutes’ walk from the Yaesu North exit of Tokyo Station (once you exit and cross the main street, turn left and walk three blocks). Tokyo Station is absolutely massive, but if you follow the signs to the Yaesu exit you’ll be fine. The hotel lobby is interestingly on the 15th floor of the building, and the guest rooms are located on floors 8 through 14. The staff spoke decent English and were very helpful. The hotel lobby, hallways, and rooms are kept in immaculate condition. Our “semi-double” room was small even by Japanese standards, but its functionality made up for its size. There were many power outlets, the lighting was able to be controlled from several places within the room, the thermostat worked well, and the window opened enough for a breeze to come in. The bathroom was larger than expected, and the amenities provided were all top-of-the-line. The hotel has complimentary wired and wireless access in the rooms, and wi-fi is available in the lobby. There are coin laundry machines & dryers on the 10th and 12th floors for guests to use – detergent is added automatically. There are also vending machines on each floor – choices vary, but you can get tea, coffee, soft drinks, and beer. As mentioned above, Tokyo station is nearby, but the closest subway station is actually Nihombashi (out the hotel entrance, turn right and go around the corner), and it is an easily-navigable station with a few lines running through it. Also, within walking distance of the hotel are plenty of shopping and dining options, as well as the Imperial Gardens. This hotel is a great choice for anyone visiting Tokyo for a few days.

Compact, but perfectly clean and efficient. Comfortable sleeping in spite of tight room. Free wireless and water provided. Good, strong shower plus all the little toiletry/amenities provided. Location is right across from major metro stop (Tokyo) and very lively night time restaurant scene.

Room was virtually windowless. That is, it had a window, but it didn't open, nor could you see out of it. Further, they only allowed me to extend my checkout time (11 am) by one half-hour.
