“Definitely a must try! Fresh and delicious sushi that does not burn a hole in your wallet”
Reviewed 14 April 2014

If you have a craving for sushi, this is the name you must remember. They have around 10 branches around the Tsujiki area - some are open from 11 am to 9 pm, one is open from 11 am to 5 am, and they also have a 24 hour restaurant.

Just order from the menu, or you can also give the friendly sushi chefs free rein to serve you what is the freshest for the day. Portions start from Y98 for salmon sushi, to Y128 for Ika (squid) sushi, and can go up to Y500 for a sea urchin hand roll. The two of us ended up ordering around 35 pieces of sushi for dinner, which cost us around Y5500 (including drinks) - not too bad for such fresh and tasty food.

Service is also excellent, and you feel like you are in a family-run restaurant rather than a chain, with the sushi chefs engage in regular banter with their regulars.

Definitely a must try if you are in the area. We loved it so much that we went back three time in four days.

“Good value, fresh ingredients, opened 24 hours to satisfy your sushi crave.”
Reviewed 15 March 2014

Although sushi is not one of our preferred foods, we join a group of friends on March 14th 2014 when we were in Shinjuku, taking the Tokyo subway to the world renowned Tsukiji fish market for some sushi. The Sushizanmai Tsukiji Fish Market Tokyo Japan is opened 24 hours a day, all 365 days a year. They have other branches but the outlet at Tsukiji is their main and biggest restaurant with an excellent selection of very fresh sashimi and top quality sea foods. There are three floors with the top floor having a tatami flooring able to accommodate about 30 people.

We first tried the the vegetable and prawn tempura and then the octopus tempura, and then realized that we were ordering the wrong foods as this is, after all, a sushi eatery! So we further ordered the sweet shrimp sushi, salmon and ark shell sushi and a roll containing prawns, cucumber and prawn. They have 3 kinds of miso soup: The crab miso, baby clamp, and sea weed miso soups, so we ordered the clam miso soup which came with clamps in the soup which had a taste of alcohol or spirit in it. It was very delicious. Our friends went to town with the raw tuna, fish and other raw sea products.
The food is freshly prepared literally under your very noses if you sat like we did, at the bar counter. Sushizanmai is basically value for money with its fresh sushi at reasonable prices. They also have sushi/sashimi sets but they usually contain a few things that you might not like. We drank green tea with our meals, but Japanese sake, beer and wines are available.
The waiters do speak English, and are not pushy for you to order their most expensive dishes. They do make recommendations and can tell you what’s in the offering for each dish. The ambiance is fairly quiet and relaxed in spite of the big number of clients outside the restaurant waiting to get in.
Sushizanmai is certainly good value for money fresh sushi.

“Very Fresh Sushi”
Reviewed 6 January 2014

Toro, Uni and Salmon roe are inexpensive compared to LA and HK and they are very good quality. Everything is fresh. Please book in advance if you don't want to wait in line as they are quite booked.
