“All I can say is...WOW!”
Reviewed 5 February 2010

I can only echo what has been said by everyone else. This place is a marvel and a gem and if I'm ever in Tokyo and can afford to stay here I definitely will. The service is almost embarrassing, it's so good and so attentive. The food in the restaurants, and especially the appetizers and drinks in the bar on the 38th floor overlooking a truly spectacular view are also spectacular. The room I had overlooked the west side of Tokyo and was splendid, including a crystal clear view of Mt. Fuji. The same view could be found in the fantastic bath in the spa, where you loll in the wonderful hot water gazing out upon the wonderland that is Tokyo. I'm afraid if I go on too much you'll think I've been paid by the hotel, but please believe me when I say I've NEVER stayed at any hotel that delivered so much. DON'T MISS THIS GREAT PLACE!

I have made reservations to stay at the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo from mid Feb 2010 for 2 weeks with my family and a friend and his family. This will be my first stay at this hotel as I usually stay at the Park Hyatt in Shinjuko and more recently, the Ritz Carlton in Mid-Town. The decision to stay at the MOTYO was made after the repeated recommendations of a couple of friends.

Online reservation was painless and efficient, what has followed after the automated email confirmation is the reason to my first Trip Advisor review. Shortly after the automated email, I was greeted by a more personalised email from the Reservations Team and later, Ms. Yoko Sumida and her colleagues from the Concierge Team. Since then, they have helped me make half a dozen dining reservations, made restaurant recommendations, floral arrangements for my wife's birthday, birthday cakes, transportation arrangement from Narita Airport to the Ski Resort that I will be staying at 7 days prior to my arrival at MOTYO, in-room amenities for kids and the list goes on. While all of these arrangements have been taken care of in the most possibly detailed way. Having stayed at so many 5 star hotels throughout the years, this particular pre-arrival experience has been truly exceptional. MOTYO has really really raised the bar. Can't wait to be there in 4 weeks time. Will write a review after my stay.

We spent a wonderful time in the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo. Service was excellent and we felt like VIP’s. The concierge desk was extremly helpful. Restaurants are elegant and first-class and even the all day dining restaurant K’shiki is a beautiful place with different great creations. The decoration is contemporary and luxury. Even the exercise room let you feel different. Mandarin Oriental Tokyo is very centrally located. I hope to come back again.

The Mandarin Oriental Tokyo met all our expectations from the moment of our arrival when we were greeted at the front door and whisked up to the lobby until the time of our departure.

The room was spacious by any standards but certainly by Tokyo ones and beautifully decorated but with restraint.
Service was great from arrival to departure. The assistance provided for organizing our onward journey was just exceptional.

We had in-room breakfast and found this the only weakness. While very good in quality it arrived too early and the form provided is not unambiguous for all items. However apart from that all services provided were just perfect !

The level of service I am continuosly receiving as a guest of the Mandarin Oriental is unmatched among any business hotel in Asia Pacific. From the welcome drink in the room, to the right adaptors being already in the room on arrival, the laundry bags already having my name on it, from basically all staff knowing my name to being extremely helpful in all requests, the service exceeds any expectation or experience in other business hotels. Quality and freshness of products at breakfast is great, views from the rooms are phantastic, size and quality of equipment of rooms is very generous. I have spent many nights in many trips at the Mandarin, and I will always return.
Only criticism: extra charge for internet use!

I think that this is the best property in Tokyo -- much better than both the Ritz and the Peninsula (2 other recent entries into the market).

Best things about the property:

- Impeccable modern Asian design
- Great views of the city (even from the restrooms)
- Top notch service that is a more flexible than most hotels in Japan. Very attentive and successful in both responding to and anticipating needs
- Diversity of restaurants
- Spacious well-designed rooms
- Large wet area connected to the spa
- Intimate / quiet feeling in public spaces

Opportunities for improvement:

- Location isn't perfect for tourism but isn't bad
- You pay dearly for the privilege (especially at the spa)
- Bar area can get smokey (but this is Japan)
