We stayed here for the first 4 days of our first trip to Japan, as a gentle introduction in a Western hotel before heading off to stay in ryokan and Japanese people's homes elsewhere in the country. It proved to be a perfect choice.

The hotel is super- convenient, next to the large railway station at Shinagawa, which is where the trains from Haneda Airport come to, and is also convenient for trains from Narita. Our flight arrived at 7:30am from London, and check-in was not until 2pm, but the really welcoming staff at The Strings ensured we could have a shower and store our luggage until a room was ready for us, which it was by 11am.

The hotel is right outside the east exit to Shinagawa station, so make sure you head out of that exit. If you come out of the station and since the Prince hotel ahead off you, it's the wrong exit so head back in and come out the other side. Once out of the station, take a right by Dean & Deluca deli, and follow the pathway to the large tower block immediately on your right. Then follow the signs for the hotel entrance in 26th floor. It was really easy to find.

The staff were wonderful throughout, all spoke great English, helped us with bookings for restaurants and ideas for things to do etc. breakfast was I clued in my rate and was a huge buffet, so plenty to choose from and fill up on before heading out to explore.

The room was pretty large, with a great bathroom, views over the city, and well stocked with L'Occitane toiletries. There were also fluffy robes and also kimonos to wear, which were laid out on the bed each evening at turn-down.

The location, next to Shinagawa station is really handy for exploring, as there are loads of train & underground lines from there to all the places you'd want to visit. It's on the Yamanote lines which connects all the main centres. It's also where the bullet trains to Kyoto etc leave from, so handy for that too.

All in all, delighted with the choice of hotel and would certainly stay here again.

Booked this hotel to stay in for my first visit to Japan. Advantage is that it is next to Shinagawa station which is only 15 mins or so from Haneda airport (without connections etc) so it was relatively easy to navigate the transport system when we arrived. The hotel is on upper floors of a skyscraper and provides some nice views over Tokyo. Room was quite large by Japanese standards as it was the largest room we had on our trip. If you don't wish to pay for over priced hotel food there is a myriad of options around the station and also a coffee shop next the entrance which was good for breakfast. There is also 7-11 next to the hotel entrance that allowed you to top up on snacks or a nightcap without raiding the minibar at great expense. When you leave the hotel its a short hop back to Shinagawa station which is a Shinkansen (bullet train) stop as well as being on the circular Yamanote line which is a Japan Rail line that connects many places you will want to visit.

The hotel have a great ambient lightning, grandeur features, and great security. Location and connectivity is fantastic. Lots of places to eat and drink nearby.

At the telephone there is a button that connects you directly to the Manager on Duty and he went through great lengths to make sure my request was met with much enthusiasm. Very Impress with all the staff's professionalism and attentiveness at the hotel.

Its one of the very few luxurious hotel that one would wish other similar hotels would followed its bench mark that it has set. Two thumbs up!!

Room tip: Requested the view of the train station and surprisingly the double glaze windows were good you couldn't hear the trains passing by.
