Sheraton Miyako Hotel Tokyo
Ranked #20 of 112 Hotels / Ryokan in Minato
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 7 November 2011

As a former long time resident of Tokyo, I find that the Miyako is just right for me. 20 years back this was considered one of the top hotels in Tokyo, now replaced by the 60,000 yen a night palaces downtown. But I can usually book a very nice room here for under 20,000 yen, and I am rarely disappointed. A very quiet location, but just a short taxi ride from Shinagawa Station when you arrive on the NEX, and close enough to where you need to be. The shuttle bus to Meguro Station gives you access to all of the Yamanote Line, and a late night taxi ride from the fleshpots won't break the bank. There is a nice little supermarket about 10 minutes walk along Meguro Dori, if you are cheap like me!

Room Tip: In my experience the cheapest rooms are a bit blah. Go for "Superior". Still not too expen...

I will preface this review with the fact that I have never been to Japan before and haven't stayed in any other hotels there.
If the standard of service offered in the Sheraton miyako is normal for Japan, then I wonder what Japanese people think when they visit Australia, as I can't say I have experienced anything similar here.

All of the staff at this hotel were exceptionally helpful and efficient on all occasions. There seemed to be plenty of staff on duty and they had a genuine sense of really wanting to help. Including the cleaning lady who ran after me as I was about to enter the men's toilets :-).

The room was quite spacious, bathroom recently renovated. Free wired internet which worked well all of the time.
Breakfast was a very nice buffet with plenty of fresh fruit and salad options, as well as the usual hot dishes.
Shuttle bus to the train station was very convenient.
Overall a very pleasant stay.

The Sheraton Miyako Hotel has some years on its back, but it carries them with dignity. Although you see signs of its age, all parts of the hotel are very well kept and maintained. Decoration is timeless so you don't feel that the hotel belongs to a certain "era". Rooms are clean and silent (however, we had some noise issues with fellow guests a few nights), bed and pillows comfortable. Try to get a room towards the garden. Service was excellent. Any request was dealt with promptly and the level of english spoken by staff is generally very good.

Breakfastarea had a nice bright morning light due to the large windows, and breakfast held a good quality - clearly above average. In room dining held surprisingly good quality and delivery was very fast.

The pool has a gym and a pool which is not crowded at all - recommended if you want to exercise and clear your head. I saw many guests jogging in the morning, and I suspect the area is suitable for that as it is not too busy. The free bus service (about 5-8 minutes ride) to Meguro station is also a big plus, as there are not many restaurants or shops near the hotel itself. The area around the station has many nice restaurants and small shops and has a nice pulse.

Internet is free (cable), no wifi in the rooms.

We got quite a good rate, and when comparing with other options this is definately good value. It's a perfect place if you want to have peace and quiet, but still be within a short reach to more lively spots in town. Will absolutely return.

Old fashion style. Hotel is clean, offer all kinds of services, but furniture and complete look feel that is old style. I stay 3 nights here for business and for fast living and big traffic Tokyo enough. Hotel is in peacefully area of Tokyo, to center you need 10-15 min. Room is clean, enough space for daily work and relax in room. Service and personal are perfect and always ready to help you whith any problem. Always spend a lot time for you to fix any problem. Hotel offers are expensive, but nothing more like all other things in Tokyo. Friendly bus transfers whith normal prices and you can use taxi to center of city or Giza street and spend 1000-2500 JY. From this hotel you can explore all best things in Tokyo and in same time enjoy SPG level.

As most of you are aware, space is a luxury in Japan and most hotel rooms are quite small (compact). When we got to Sheraton Miyako, we were pleasantly surprised with the room layout and good size. Our room faced the Japanese Garden in the hotel compound itself and the view was awesome (Autumn). Do visit the garden if you have time.
There are free shuttle service to the nearest MTR station every 10 or 15 mins (Meguro/Shinagawa Station) makes moving around in Tokyo very convenient.
A good mid-class business hotel with a fair rate.

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the Japanese Garden.

I stayed here for one night on one of the dreaded Haneda to Narita overnight layover. Compared to a Narita hotel, this was both more convenient (easier to get from Haneda to Shinagawa Station at 23:15 pm than to Narita) and cheaper after you consider the obscenely expensive night-time taxi ride to Narita. The front desk staff attitude was just what I needed after a tiring day of travel; warm and professional but laid-back as well. The room and hotel itself felt a bit dated but it was at least comfortable and the Internet wasn't fussy. I had a smoking room, and I was happy to see some robust matches provided rather than some flimsy paper or toothpick-like things. My only complaint is that there is no in-room iron, I really like to iron my own clothes without having to call for an iron. The coffeemaker/kettle contraption also didn't have a convenient place to plug it in, but I found a somewhat less obvious place for it.

Nothing really stood out about this hotel to me but that's almost a good thing! It's a very unoffensive hotel with unbeatable price in Tokyo among the Western hotel chains. That and the proximity to Meguro/Shinagawa Station would lead me to expect that a lot of business/leisure travellers alike come here. I will definitely consider the Sheraton Miyako on my next visit to Tokyo.
