the hotel is good, the rooms are big and the bathroom is well equipped and large, everyone does their best to make you comfortable... so everything a 5 star hotel should have.
the location is great, just few meters away from JR lines and Ginza station.

But the hotel is outdated, and you can start seeing the age coming together. I would imagine you can get better value for money in other hotels close by.

The Dai-Ichi remains our favorite Tokyo hotel and one of our two or three favorites anywhere. This was the fourth or fifth time we have stayed there. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful and speak good English. The location is excellent - two short blocks from the JR Shimbashi station and the Ginza subway line and a little further from the Hibiya subway line. It is a short walk to the south end of the Ginza as well. There are plenty of restaurants nearby. The rooms are large and comfortable. A few people have complained about them, but ours was in excellent condition and spotlessly clean. The internet service is free and speedy - about 20 Mb/sec upstream and downstream. The brass room keys are quaint - but they are in keeping with the 19th century France theme of the decor. In Japan nobody is going to steal your belongings, so the latest lock technology is not really necessary. We have tried the French and sushi restaurants. Both are very good. The top floor lounge has a spectacular view to the north and east. The second floor lounge is at track level for the JR metropolitan lines (Yamanote and others) and the Shinkansen. For train lovers, there are very few places that can match it and for everybody else it is interesting and unusual. Overall, highly recommended.

Great location in a sprawling city, within a short metro / JR Line hop to all major attractions, and well within walking distance of good restaurants and under-arch pubs.
Yes, it's in more of a business district, but that means it's less chaotic at weekends.
The hotel is immaculate, Premier floor has the lounge advantages, and concierge are exceptionally helpful!
All in all a great stay!

I checked into this hotel today. The room I was given was dirty - stains everywhere. There is one large chair in the centre of the room and nothing else. It's like a basic hostel. I would not recommend staying here. It is very dated. On the plus side the staff seem helpful.

Room Tip: Don't stay here - it is dirty, smelly and noisy.

Great location for Ginza and Shimbashi. The staff were all phenomenally helpful. Super fast complimentary wifi in the rooms. The only thing keeping this hotel from getting 5 stars was the fact that the rooms are all a bit dated, but for the money it's the best deal in the area.

Also, can't recommend the concierge enough -- they were very helpful in recommending restaurants, giving us directions, etc.

Stayed 2 nights here at 15th floor. Everything is perfect with Japanese Omotenashi. One of the end of famous Ginza street is here in Shimbashi. This hotel is located at the center of Tokyo. JR, Japanese Railroad and Tokyo Metro Subway available here. Also Shimbashi is the terminal station for Yurikamome line for beautiful Tokyo Ocean front, notably it is with Tokyo Big Site where many exhibition and conference is held.

Room Tip: Higher floor might be better. The hotel is located in front of Shimbashi station and If you're g...

The hotel's main strength is excellent location for a reasonable price.

It's easy to get to via Narita Express and then 2 stops on JR from tokyo station (doable with suitcases) - we worked out that our NEX ticket (~3000yen) included the JR fare; otherwise there's a hotel shuttle (timetable on hotel website). Taxi to Tokyo station is just over 1000yen - much easier if there's bulky luggage.

10min walking distance to a large number of restaurants around shimbashi station and ginza, along with all the shopping. There is direct access to metro from the basement on 3 lines so getting around tokyo is fantastically convenient from the hotel.

The hotel is a little dated but excellent service - most staff spoke reasonable English. Amenities were good - wifi was free for our rooms but gym and pool was in the next (annex) building and was not complimentary. Rooms were reasonable sizes and our wives loved the great Shiseido toiletries. Being close to JR also means that noise can be an issue. We were on level 17 and can still hear the train until just after midnight - the northwest side would be the furthest away from the train station. There's a great little bakery in the hotel lobby and a 24 convenience store directly across the street.

We only tried the teppanyaki restaurant in the hotel which was reasonably good but pricey. Given there are so many great restaurants around the area and in ginza we'd recommend looking around.

Overall a solid 4 for our rating.

Room Tip: North facing is a little further away from the train noise although probably not much difference - h...
