We loved our room. The hotel was very clean and maybe a block from the nearest subway. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Even for a basic room it was still classy and very roomy.

I spend long periods of time in Tokyo and this is the best place for me. Very easy to get to from Haneda, close to subway and metro lines, supermarket downstairs and extremely helpful staff who speak excellent english. I see the same people staying here time after time. There are not a lot of places to eat in the direct area, but it is a short walk to roppongi with all it's hustle and bustle. And you will always have a landmark to find your way home, it's right under Tokyo tower.

I wholeheartedly recommend the Somerset Azabu East . It is a centrally located apartment-style hotel that caters to foreign business people and those who wish to have the comforts of home rather than an overpriced small hotel room. Our one bedroom suite was not huge but spacious enough to accomodate us three comfortably (with extra bed). I especially loved the in-unit washer/dryer, the kitchen, the pool, roof deck, and the small balcony. There is free internet access in the room. The view was perfect - overlooking an old garden and temple complex with skyscrapers in the background. From the hotel you can easily reach Ginza in the west of town (on the Hibiya line from the closest station Kamiyacho), Ueno in the north (also on the Hibiya line) and points to the East such as Shibuya (on the Ginza line) or Shinjuku (on the Oedo line from the closest station Akabanebashi). The Tokyo tower is one minute walk away and a good destination to tell taxi drivers when heading home. All in all a great stay, especially for small families.

Room Tip: Ask for the garden view.

We opted for a serviced apartment in Tokyo and ended up in this hotel. Very nice and clean. The hotel is child friendly. Very nice gym and indoor pool. The price is a steal as compared to other hotels in Tokyo. We all know how expensive hotels are in Tokyo and how tiny they usually are. Housekeeping is top notch. The free breakfast which is not good is my only complain but its free so never mind. Hotels location is very very near Tokyo Tower. Were also near Roponggi hills but the areas around the hotel are mostly residential with small restaurants here and there. Another problem of this hotel is that its easily a 15 min walk from the nearest subway which can be tiring. I highly recommend this hotel but having extensively toured Tokyo, i have other ideas on where i would want to stay next time.

I am SO glad that we chose this place for my ten-day stay in Tokyo. In addition to the in-room washer/dryer, the rooms feature small kitchens with dishes, pots/pans, utensils, and even a French press coffeemaker. The space is also well-configured for working (nice desk area with drawers).

The only tiny drawback is the breakfast, which is pretty meager (only toast and cereal). During peak times, they run out of dishes (so you might end up drinking juice out of a coffee mug or putting your toast in a bowl). But really? Who cares? You can pop into the adjacent convenience store and stock up on your own breakfast foods if you prefer.

Having stayed previously in Somerset Roppongi, I must say that SAE is a much better upgrade in terms of new quality furnishings, charming location, beautiful view of lush greenery and the Tokyo Tower (very magical at night with the Tower all lit up) and there's a washing machine in your room instead of having to go to the basement. Nice pool and gym too.

However, my biggest complaint about my SAE one bedroom premier apartment is that the bedroom door is a louvred sliding door. This means that we could not get total privacy because light and sound from the living room penetrates easily into the bedroom. This made it very difficult for us to switch on the lights or even watch TV at night because we have a young child who needs to sleep by 8pm. And we had with us my teenage niece who facebooked late till midnight. So we had to sleep with the keyboard sounds clicking nonstop and the flickering light of the computer screen.

Our friend booked the studio unit which is cheaper and almost identical in space and layout. However, instead of the sliding louvred doors, they had a curtain door to separate the living room from the bedroom which we would rather prefer (at least it could block out the lights from the living room). But since they are located on a lower floor, they do not have such a great view.

And I would advise you to ask the hotel to email you a directional map to the hotel and you would need the hotel name and address in Japanese. We have taken taxis many times to SAE and almost all of them do not know how to get tthere.

Generally the staff is friendly and helpful. After we left, we got an email from the hotel telling us that they found some of our belongings. But I suspect that's the kind of service you get in almost all Japanese hotels. One disappointment though we had with the staff was when we asked them for good restaurants nearby and they keep telling us to go to Roppongi. We actually found a delightful Korean BBQ restaurant serving the yummiest wagyu beef just opposite SAE.

Somerset Roppongi has a much better location in terms of restaurants, shops and near the subway station serving the more popular destinations. Its living room is much more spacious and it has proper bedrooms with proper doors that can shut out light and noise from the living room. But the apartment looked tired, there's hardly any facilities, no washing room in the apartment (you have to go to the basement)....

Overall, I would choose to stay with either Somerset apartment - the space is such luxury...

The best thing about our stay was the size of the apartment, there is just so much space and it has everything you need. The location is fantastic, the train station is less than a 5 min walk away. There is a mini-supermarket next store so you can stock up if you want to cook in your apartment instead of heading out. Roppongi is a short stroll away for some good food and bars. Definitely recommend staying here.
