“Good location in Tokyo”
Reviewed 17 April 2012

Glad to find a hotel within my budget in Tokyo. Liked that the hotel was near the Shinjuku Station which made navigating the city easier. Harajuku station is about 2 metro stops away - this area is great for people watching, eating and shopping. The hotel was super clean, excellent customer service which is consistent throughout Japan.) The buffet breakfast provided American and Japanese food options. I arranged by first two days through their website and got a better deal. Kinda generic (I usually like boutique hotels) but would stay here again and the price was right and comfortable firm bed!

Near the Shinjuku Station you can get problems with wide loaded baggage or the kids along the station. The room was tiny, but I think that is typically for hotels in Tokio City in this price category. I would give another plus point for the cleanness of the room and for the drinks and comfort of the hotel automats. There is a supermarket on the...

I chose this hotel after searching on trip advisor. I found the reviews very accurate. I was looking for a hotel with two rooms as I was travelling with my husband and two children aged 14 and 12. It was impossible to find a hotel room for all 4 of us and so two rooms was the best option but it was getting very pricey until I found this. I e mailed ahead and got two rooms next to each other. The staff on the desk were very polite and efficient. The rooms were as described - small but clean. We were out all day so didn't spend any time in the room. The location was easy to find and very convenient. Would definitely recommend.

I had my second stay in six months at this hotel and discovered more evidence of its brilliant location. The Highway Bus terminal is just a 5 minute walk away as is the terminus for the Narita Airport bus. Both are almost directly opposite the wonderful Keio department store whose wonderful food hall is a great place to pick up classy bento boxes for around Y1,000 or a bottle of decent Australian wine for about the same price. Its confectionary counters are stacked with exquisitely packaged treats that make wonderful presents for the folks back home. AS you leave the hotel, turn to the left and continue past the first of traffic lights and continue up the rise. The Keio department store is on the right as is the Narita bus stop. The Highway bus terminal is to the left just near the docomo electronic store. A for the hotel itself, the small rooms aside, it cannot be faulted.

Room Tip: ASk for a room on one of the upper floors as they seem to have been recently refurbished. On my sec...

This was nice to be close to station, it also has a metro station right next door. We had a twin room and it worked well, but was small. We stayed two nights, if longer I would recommend the larger room, hard tok store the luggage. It worked great forums.

Maybe it was because of the Earthquake, or the deals through their website, but the Sunroute is the cheapest hotel we have stayed in in three trips to Tokyo. It's also the nicest and the best value.
Its exceptionally well located, with quick and easy access to Shinjuku and Yoyogi station (nice taking that extra stop on the Yamanote loop and not fighting through the hordes at Shinjuku!) has lots of bars and restaurants near by as well as the biggest Tokyu Hands in Japan (you could easily spend a day there) and it's actually a really nice hotel, clean and well maintained.
It s a bit tricky to find, and I actually think its easier from Yoyogi, but plenty of other reviews have gone into that, just make sure you check them out and make some notes (although if you are like us, you might still have trouble!)

I chose this hotel because it was the only affordable hotel highly rated on TA, and I wasn't disappointed. My room was very clean and, whilst it was small, it was easy to live with because it was so well designed. There was an excellent written (in English) room guide which explained how to use everything in the room and where to find an ATM which accepts international cards. The staff were friendly and spoke excellent English. There was free wi-fi in the guest lounge. Instead of a rip-off laundry service, there was a coin-opp laundry; and instead of a rip-off mini-bar, there were vending machines selling water, soft-drinks, hot coffee, and beer!

A warning: the streets of Shinjuku make no sense - the network of under- and over- passes means the ground looks nothing like the map! To get to the hotel from the train station: leave the paid area via the South Exit (if, anywhere in Tokyo, you use the wrong exit, you're screwed, and often you can't get to the correct exit without re-entering the paid area) and walk downhill to the intersection, stand there and scan the tops of all the skyscrapers for Sunroute Plaza.

As great as this hotel is, please don't let the ease of staying here stop you from spending at least a couple of nights in a ryokan whist in Japan - that's a quintessential Japanese experience you shouldn't miss out on.

Room Tip: Check the hotel's website for an explanation of the many, many room types (Expedia does not expl...
