Uobei Shibuya (of Genki Sushi) is a novel, fun, excellent-value take on sushi trains. Rather than sit around a train with dishes just waiting to be grabbed, you sit at a bar with three tracks of conveyor belts in front of you and a smart pad featuring the menu, waiting for your order. You can order up to three dishes at once, and they come out pretty quickly. It's a really fun way to order and receive your food.
The real stand out thing about Uobei is this:
105. Yen. Per. Dish.
This is a bargain, people. A lot of places we visited in Japan were friendly to the wallet, but this takes the cake. Value rarely gets this good. For those Japanese-cuisine-connoisseurs, they do have a range of more specialised dishes on the menu which cost a bit more, but most of the menu is just 105 yen a plate. And it's a reasonably big menu at that. My only wish is that they had a few more vegetarian options - i felt they had less in that area than other sushi trains i've been to.
Bottom line - if you're on a budget, want a different sushi train experience, or just need a quick meal in Shibuya, you NEED to check out Uobei Genki Sushi.
