“Good for a layover, but don't expect much else”
Reviewed 25 April 2012

I was expecting much more then received, even for this price. I usually stay at a more fancy hotel close by, and knew I wanted to try something new, but for the price, you get pretty much nothing but a bed, shower, and average breakfast. Located IN the Shibuya station, at the New South exit, the hotel goes up to the reception floor, then you are directed to your room. Free wifi, free breakfast, pay for TV, tiny tiny Paris sized room, tiny bathroom, and the vent was stuck on heat the 2 days, so it was hard to sleep. And the construction next door goes on through the night, so don't try and open the window. I wouldn't recommend unless you can't find anything else, and I won't be staying again.

Room Tip: Away from construction side of hotel

A no-frills hotel, conveniently located at the New South Gate exit of Shibuya Station. Rooms are small, a bit bigger than, say, a Paris 2-star, but apparently quite standard for Japan. Sadly, no wi-fi - only a wired internet connection (with a very short cable) in the rooms, and public terminals in the lobby. Buffet breakfast at the cafe one floor below the lobby is excellent - the best part of my short stay there. The cafe itself is bright, comfortable and beautifully designed - a great place to unwind from the crazyness of Shibuya. So, on the whole, not a great hotel for business travel, but perfectly acceptable as a base for exploring Tokyo as a tourist.

A great place to move around around in Japan. A lively hotel , quite and pleasant in every way. The hotel is on the 3rd floor of the shibuya on the new south exit. You would not hear any noise of rains or passengers though the station is quite crowded. The rooms are well designed, though small. The clean environment gives you an added touch of hospitality. Internet connection, washig machines and micro wave machines without any charge makes it likeable.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the town side are better

To clarify, accessibility to get TO the hotel, not from the hotel to / from the Narita Express - in that sense, it is very good.
If you are connecting from say the Yamanote or Keihin Tohoku Lines, it's quite a hike and in spring / summer with bags, it can get very tiresome very quickly. However, if you are able to get the Saikyo Line (ebisu through Shibuya and on to Omiya), then you are fine.
Tokyo is expensive at the best of times. Good hotel deals are as rare as hens teeth. The accessibility aside, the Hotel Mets Shibuya is pretty good - there are two computers for complimentary next access, if you know Shibuya at all, it is within about 15 minutes of some major department stores and the Public House (which serves as a breakfast restaurant in the morning and a funky bar in the evening) is actually pretty good. Try and get a rate that includes breakfast. If you can't the Lawson which is near the hotel is always busy but has enough for what you may require.

Room Tip: Book online !

A fine, no frills hotel in Shibuya. The rooms were clean, but small and the staff was helpful. You can enter directly from the train station and there are restaurants within walking distance and a convenience store across the street. The rooms are nothing special, but they get the job done for less than many other places in Tokyo.

Ask for the largest room possible on the side away from the tracks. Also, price includes a very nice free breakfast!

My daughter and I stayed at the Mets Shibuya during a group tour and were thrilled with the hotel and, especially, the location. The hotel is conveniently located adjacent to a main subway line offering convenient access to most of the sights of Tokyo. The Shibuya location is great as well with multiple dining and shopping venues readily available. There is a convenience store right across the street and multiple good and inexpensive restaurants one block away. The rooms are small by western standards but nicely equipped and clean. An ample buffet breakfast is available with western and Japanese foods and the restaurant has 4 free internet stations . Although we were assigned this hotel with our tour, I would enthusiastically recommend this hotel as a base for exploring Tokyo to others.

The Hotel Mets Shibuya is very average.

The rooms in the Hotel Mets are spacious and reasonably priced, especially for Shibuya. Also, we had a very urban look from the window - nice. On the other hand, the bathroom felt very cheap - it was entirely of plastic. One felt more like in an airplane than in a hotel room!

The location is good, right inside the Shibuya station. If you go to the Shibuya crossway, however - and you sure will - you understand that even if the hotel is in the station, it does not mean that it is necessarily very close by. Still, you are quickly on your way to Narita, so its a very good option if you leave Japan after your stay in Tokyo.

The breakfast is served at two different places, and both offer some pros and cons. The staff is professional, but that is it. There is a PC for going in the internet, but it is not very comfortable to use (there is internet in the room of course).

If I have to offer you a conclusion, I would say that the Hotel Mets Shibuya is a very average hotel. While its rooms are quite comfortable and spacious, they feel cheap. While it is located right inside Shibuya station, going there might still be quite a trip. While the staff is professional, it is not very friendly. You get the idea. Probably the best example is that there are some free portions of tea in the room - but it is only tea powder.

Go to the Hotel Mets if you are fine with an average experience in a reasonably well located hotel. If you like to feel cozy, romantic or are looking for something special, go somewhere else. I do not say it is a bad hotel - it is just very boring. Personally, I would not recommend it. Spend some more bucks and go home with a better memory.
