“This hotel is a great bargain.”
Reviewed 25 May 2014

This hotel is a great bargain. Rooms are nice, staff speaks decent to good English and overall are very helpful. The buffet breakfast was good. The hotel is easy to get to the Narita Airport by Limousine Bus from Washington Hotel, however it is a good 10 minute walk to Shinjuku station (though you can go through the Washington Hotel Annex and go completely underground). Overall, I was happy with their services and room for the price that I paid.

Stayed a couple of days and enjoyed. Very small rooms but that's typical. Slept well. Had an earthquake while there but I almost slept through the whole thing! 15 min from shinjoku station and 10 min away from the streets filled with food. There is wired internet in the room and wireless connection in the loby. But honestly the best part has to be the breakfast!! Such a nice selection of eastern and western food.

Reviewed 20 April 2014

I stayed 5 nights at the Sun Members Tokyo Shinjuku mid April 2014.

The room was definitely not as small as expected after reading many reviews. The bed was very comfortable, the air conditioning almost inaudible and there was enough space to seat at the desk to surf on the internet ;-) they do not offer WiFi in the rooms but an ethernet cable is provided. I always take a USB to RJ45 (ethernet plug) converter with me as my laptop has no built in RJ45. That worked perfectly and the connection was more than decent.

The bathroom is small but very convenient. I personally find the sometimes very negative reviews hard to understand. I found the room and the bath room to have similar size as what you usually get in Japan.

My room was located on the 12th floor facing the next building so no view but around the hotel itself there is not much of a view anyway.

The price of the room for solo travelers is unbeatable for Tokyo I guess. In that class of hotel I mean. You get a 40% discount for booking sometime in advance.

I am very sensitive to noise and I found the noise insulation to be very effective. For me a huge plus.

The breakfast does not offer a large selection, that is true but the quality is definitely excellent and you get a Japanese section which I loved. There was a choice of fish, vegetables, pickles, rice, miso soup and salad. Additionally there was the usual basic stuff for Westerners, i.e. sausage, kind of scrambled eggs, kind of croquette potatoes, vegetables, some cornflakes, some bread. I liked the Asian sweet stuff they had (lychee jelly, almond jelly/puree). So for me at least very tasty and very feeling :) - my only complain: it opens at 7AM only so a bit late...

Most of the hotel staff speak only basic English but during my week in Japan (Tokyo, Hiroshima, Kyoto, Nara, Nagano, etc...) finding locals speaking good English came always as a surprise. This is Japan after all ;-) Probably world travelers should lower their expectations with regard to English being spoken but locals wherever they go.

The staff doing the rooms when I was there did not speak English at all but were willing to understand so I was able to communicate with signs. By the way during a recent stay in Las Vegas in a hotel on the strip I realized that the staff doing the rooms were only talking Spanish (yes there were able to say Good Morning and a few key words in English but that was it). So...

Anyway the location is fantastic I found. Essentially same location as the Washington hotel that is literally next to this hotel. So a 15 minutes quick walk to the Shinjuku station. Many convenient stores opened 24 hours around. A few restaurants but to get a broader offer you probably have to go to the station. It is also a very short five minutes walk to the metropolitan government buildings where you have a FREE excellent view on the city from the observatory floor at about 200m in both buildings. This is convenient as you can be there early morning (it opens at 9:30).

I personally think for the price that hotel/residence is unbeatable and it offers a lot for what you pay.

Been staying at this hotel for 4 nights. Room is a little bit small althou i took semi double (myself only).but still worth it as this hotel has a strategic location. Front desk really help me a lot eventhou they are not really good in english. can just walk about 15 minutes to go to kabuki cho, shinjuku robot restaurant and so on. Also, it only takes 5-10 minutes to reach the subway station

Reviewed 11 February 2014

Yes, the hotel is located 10 ~ 15min away from Shinjuku Station, but only a few minutes away from the nearest underground station (i.e. Tochou-mae Station). The room looked a bit tired but clean and quite spacious compared to hotels nearby (I have stayed Keio Presso-Inn, but their room was unbelievably small). There are some negative comments regarding their room size, but check the room size at Washinton Hotel and Keio Presso-Inn first.
It took nearly 10min to check-in due to busy time, and only 3 staff were available at the reception.
WiFi is not available in this hotel, but cabled Internet is available in the room.
Breakfast was better than expected. It was quite nice and tasty, and available both Japanese traditional and western breakfast.
Overall, I was happy with their services and room for the price that I paid for.
