“What's not to like?”
Reviewed 15 July 2012

My family stayed here for ten days in April. (Sakura Fever, Catch it!). Mom, Dad, boy 9, girl 6. The hotel, when viewed from the outside could be mistaken for an urban jail complex. Inside, however, it's all business. The lobby looks like the lobby of all those Hyatts that were built as a part of the US "Urban Renewal" fad of the 70's and 80's. My wife commented upon seeing the room, "This could be anywhere in the world." TV (32 inch with HDMI input), dresser, beds, bathroom, solid OK. The staff, pleasantly unobtrusive, the facilities? Hell, there's a full-size 7-11 in the bottom of this building, what more do you want?

Much has been said about the location. It's not immediately adjacent to Shinjuku Station (you'd like that?). You can walk it. Took the subway to a Swallows night game with my boy, walked both ways to Shinjuku, not a peep from the kid. They have a bus to the station, which is free and kinda lazy. It's directly across from Shinjuku Chuo park, which has a swell kids playground and beautiful Shrine (complete with non-stop weddings) and lots of Bums. But the Bums are very polite and actually quite interesting. Never did figure out what was going on with many of the other activities (Tai chi class meets at 0600). We spent a whole lot of time in this park. The Tokyo Metro Building with its free observatory and overpriced Chinese souvenirs is right next door. Lots and lots of cheap eats between Shinjuku Station and the hotel. If the guy making the Lattes at Excelsior Coffee goes missing, we kidnapped him. Google Street View, use it, it's across from the Keio Plaza on the station side.

Good place, clean, reasonably priced. Five stars.

Room Tip: Hyatt Gold Rewards points, FTW. Remember you're still in Tokyo, even if you're not at the P...

My umpteenth stay at the Hyatt Regency and it never disappoints. Redeemed passport points to stay in Club Room and in one of the high floor renovated rooms (seperate shower and bath tub a must!!) - both were great. In fact i would put this Hotel up against the flashier Grand Hyatt any day of the week. I have stayed at the Grand Hyatt before and the rooms are small and cannot compare. Location-wise i find Shinjuku much more convenient than Roppongi. Hyatt Regency is convenient for most things with subways and shuttle all nearby. The Club Room comes with complimentry breakfast which is quite extensive and of good quality. Service always of high standard!

This is the most downmarket of the Hyatt's in Tokyo? The other two properties must be incredible! Huge rooms (for Japan), shower and tub as well as a separate room for the toilet. Heated toilet seat and the toilet washes you.

The Tochamae subway stop is directly below the hotel and the vast Shinjuku station is a 10 minute walk away (the hotel also has a free shuttle every 20 minutes). The hotel has 6 restaurants, all world class. I stayed on a club floor and the club lounge is a huge bonus, the food is all appetizer size but really high quality.

So great location, great room, comfortable bed. The window shade completely blocked the light in the morning. I had an in-room shiatsu massage (they stop at 2 am!) for less than $100 US, which is less than I pay in the US. Any negatives? Yes, room service prices are insane. I ordered a meal one night and added a ginger ale as an afterthought, 900 yen ($12). Ridiculous! Despite that the hotel deserves 5 stars.

Spent one night in Shinjuku. Room is spacious and clean. A very convenient 7/11 is right at the basement of the Hotel. I think it is very near to the subway also (which we didn't use). Was with a tour group so have no idea how much the room cost.

The Hyatt Regency Tokyo is a very good choice for business travelers coming from overseas.

Pros:
- Excellent location. The Hotel is within a 10min walk of the Shinjuku station and shopping area. It is also in the midst of a commercial office area, and so many companies may be within a short walk/drive away.
- Spacious rooms. Unlike other Tokyo hotels which offer tiny rooms (the Hilton next door is a particularly extreme example), this Hyatt offers rooms that are comfortably sized and spacious.
- Non-smoking rooms don't smell smoky. This was a pleasant surprise as this is usually not the case in other Tokyo hotels.
- Terrific water pressure in shower. Enough said.
- Great breakfast buffet. Superb choice of western and Japanese food, including eggs made to order.
- Easy access to Haneda and Narita airports by buses that pick you up right at the front of the Hotel.

Cons:
- Expensive (but I felt that it was good value for the money).
- Rooms don't include irons. You need to have your clothes sent away to be pressed. For a fee.

We were lucky enough to be invited to the Japan Cup, Japan's biggest horse racing event, and our hosts recommended us to use this hotel. We had been warned that hotel rooms in Japan are very small but this is most certainly not the case with the Hyatt Regency. Our room was palatial, beautifully equipped and very comfortable. As the hotel is in the business district, there are no views other than offices! Breakfast was copious but very expensive and guests were clearly planning to eat enough for the whole day. The bars and eating generally are expensive by our standards and we resorted to the neighbouring MacDonalds! An interesting shopping precinct is a short ride away and a number of interesting trips can be arranged. We went to Mount Fujiyama and rode on the Bullet Train.

Overall great service: fast response and corteous in responding requests.

Value for the money: is far from shopping area, after 7pm is like a ghost town.
Interior ambiance is elegant yet feels like in the 80's style and feel outdated.

Room facing the entrance (triangle building) is way too small 4x4 meters, get the other rooms facing the back side of the building, room size is much larger, maybe 20 sq meter ish.

Beware no free wifi on any hyatt chain hotel. Free is only for platinum member, not gold and below, ignore whatever the staff said free who brought you the wifi router.

Receptionist who served me was not corteous. His gestures & tone in resolving wifi issue somehow rough, maybe he is old? One thing that made me upset was the way he resolved my complain.

This is what He said " is ok, you dont have to pay. I charge your wifi to the staff who told you." Quite mean and harsh, wasn't it?

Bed mattress is quite alright for few night stays.

Staffs response are fast yet need to improve their english.

Breakfast buffet, the overall food was great and consistent like in singapore.
