Hotel Sunlite Shinjuku
Ranked #29 of 83 Hotels / Ryokan in Shinjuku
Reviewed 15 April 2014

It takes around 15 minutes to walk from Shinjuku station to the hotel. and it's quite easy to find. If you need to consult the maps posted on some street corners on the way, be advised that "North" normally isn't "up" on the map. The "North-arrow" is indicated somewhere, and I've seen it pointing in a lot of different directions.
The hotel's check-in time is 3 PM, which means that you won't get a room earlier. And the check-out time is 11 AM. They'll charge extra if you want to stay a couple of hours longer. They do however store your luggage if necessary. The hotel entry doors are locked between 2 AM and 5 AM, which is a bit strange. The keys are the old-fashioned kind that are to be left in the reception whenever exiting the hotel. There was not a safe deposit box in the room. Valuables should be left with the receptionist for safekeeping.
I had requested a non-smoking room. The room was very small and the bed was very hard and a bit uncomfortable. There was only one pillow. The bathroom had a small bathtub and a Japanese type toilet with the special functions. The water temperature and the water pressure in the shower were excellent.
There was a small TV with Japanese channels only. In room wi-fi worked nicely.
The hotel and the annex are located in a side-street, but there is still quite a lot of audible traffic noise in the room, especially at night.
There are vending machines in each floor with a selection of beverages, including beer. The hotel offers a Japanese breakfast for JPY 1000, but I didn't try it.
In the immediate neighborhood there are many convenience stores, and quite a few restaurants and bars.
One of the entrances to the Shinjuku-Sanchome subway station is just across the street, but it doesn't have an escalator. And be advised, all subway stations in Tokyo are huge, so a lot of walking is required.
In summary, Sunlite Shinjuku Hotel was OK, but there are many better alternatives to consider.

Room Tip: I'd say - request a quiet room well in advance of your arrival.

The hotel is located at about 10 mts walk from Shinjuku train station. My room was in the annex (in front of the main building). Hotel is really old and needs a little refurbishment. I don't know how the rooms are in the main building, I am talking about annex... Rooms are really small, but I was alone so it was ok. Breakfast is very good, with variety of japanese food good to start for the day. Reception staff speak basic english.. come on.. You are in Tokyo and you NEED to speak english..

Just a short walk from Shinjuku station and close to tons of restaurants. Tiny but clean rooms with everything you would need. Stayed in both the main hotel and annex and they were both fine. Pretty reasonable value considering the location.

We stayed just for 2 days in this hotel, but was overall a very good choice. The room was clean and comfortable, the staff was nice and the position was very good, just 10 mins walk from Shinjuku Station. :)

Stayed here for 2 nights after my first choice of hotel could only take me for the first 2 nights of my stay in Tokyo. I desperately wanted to stay to see the harajuku show on Sunday afternoon but all accommodation in shinjuku was booked out on Saturday night. So I went for a scout around shinjuku trying to find a place to stay until Sunday. I first visited Sunlite but they didn't have anything for Saturday so I kept scouting. After a long walk and lots of door knocking I returned to the Sunlite resigning to the fact I could only stay another 2 nights in Tokyo, missing Sunday. The man behind the counter remembered me and had kindly kept a room aside for me so a BIG THUMBS UP FOR SERVICE. I was also able to leave my bags there early the next morning for no cost and spend the rest of the day sightseeing before checking in later that day.

Room: The room itself was small with two single beds, but this is standard with business hotels and was a lot flasher than what I had stayed in Kyoto so I was happy. It might be a bit cramped if you are traveling as a couple.

Location: There is a convenience store just across the road. It is about a 5 minutes walk to the buzz of neon canyons of shinjuku, 10 minutes to the train station and about 30 minutes to the Park Hyatt in shinjuku west if you're a Lost In Translation fan.

I would recommend this hotel to any solo traveller on a tight(ish) budget.

In Dec 2013, I spend a week visiting Tokyo. It was my first time and it was a great experience. The hotel is near the Shinjuku Neochrome metro stop. The Express bus from Narita brings you to Shinjuku West Station.

The hotel is reasonably-priced, well-maintained and quiet. The hotel consists of two small towers. The rooms are small but well laid out.

The breakfast buffet has many western and Asian choices and is great for several days. The staff are cordial and a few can speak English.

I would recommend this hotel for an inexpensive Tokyo option in the desirable, central Shinjuku neighborhood.

I stayed 13 days and I really found everything near the hotel... It was clean, and the service is excellent. Near from Shinjuku station, good restaurants and a lot of attractions...The best choice to know Tokyo.. if I come back to Japan I'll stay there again
