“Nice view, but boring building”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2014

After seeing some of Tadao Andos arcitecture in the Seto inland sea,I must admit I was a bit disappointed with the architecture of this building. In my view, it is pretty boring. But on a clear day, the view is fantastic and well worth a visit. I'd recommend the south tower.

“Bird's eye-view of Tokyo”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2014

In a city where almost everything is expensive, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office offers a great view of the vibrant city for free. There are two observation decks (North tower and South tower), and I think it is from the South tower that you can see Mount Fuji better. There are souvenir shops on both decks (North has more toys, South has more Japanese-related items) and I think the items are reasonably priced.

The view area is at the 45th floor of both towers, and once you are done, you can alight on the 2nd floor. The building is connected to the Tocho-mae Station on the Oedo Subway Line, which is located at the basement.

“Finally, something free...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

I think coming here was a relief for my dad as he did not have to take out his wallet. If you're in Shinjuku, I highly recommend going up to the observation tower to have a look around the city. We went on a not brilliant day but we could still see most things clearly and point out all the places we already visited. There's also a tourist information centre on the 1st floor where you can find maps of other areas that are pretty handy for getting around (I suggest ignoring the attraction and shopping suggestions though if you're on a budget).

“Great views of Tokyo - and it's free!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

Visited this place on a friend's recommendation. There are two towers you can go up (North and South tower), both offering wonderful views of Tokyo. On certain days it is possible to see Mount Fuji, but not when we went - too much heat haze - but that didn't matter too much to us. This place can get quite busy, so it is advisable to do the least busy tower first. There are restaurants and souvenir shops in the building, but I didn't use them so cannot comment accordingly. However, for brilliant views of one of the world's great cities (and it's free), this is highly recommended.

“Best things in life are FREE!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

Very nice to get a free high level elevator ride and great view (with indicator maps) to boot. Sure, tons of tourist shopping occasions while you are there, but up to you if you go for it. Entrance to North Tower was easy enough to find, but it seems that the most interesting view direction is taken over by a restaurant. For 1500Ypp for lunch not even a bad price for Tokyo standard. Lunch with a view :)
