“Convenient Location”
Reviewed 6 April 2014

Just returned from a week stay at the Sunroute Higashi.

Speedy check-in and got upgraded to a two bedroom. The room was very basic with not much room to manouver around. We unpacked and spent little time at the hotel. The hotel is located steps away from the subway station that pretty much with take you anywhere whether it was a transfer or a direct stop somewhere. I found the two young men at front desk (during the day) to be very helpful with directions. They would highlight a map and give tell what lines you needed to take.

The Shinjuku Station is just one stop away and that's where we spent most of our time. Couldn't get over how many great restaurants are in the area. Also found Shin Okubo (Koreatown) to be useful for some shopping and eating.

Overall I would return to the Sunroute Higashi Hotel. Just don't expect luxury but it did fulfill our needs. The only negative thing is the emergency vehicle noise around the Hotel. There must be a hospital nearby because the sirens occur all hours of the day & night.

Room Tip: Away from the main street.

The hotel is a good choice if you want something inexpensive and located next to a train station.
It's a stop away from the Shinjuku station, so you can actually skip the train and just walk there. it took about 10-15 minutes and along the way, you can grab a bite.
The room is small but it's very clean. No frills, as expected, but you get what you pay for.
Check in and out were smooth and the people there are very polite, if slightly detached.
My only gripe - tiny flat pillows (only 2).

Stayed by myself for five nights while on vacation. The hotel location was EXCELLENT, just minutes walking distance from the Shinjuku station, and nearby restaurants, shopping, and convenience stores. The room was very clean and comfortable, and was a decent size for the price. The lobby was attractive and clean, the front desk service was pleasant, and the hotel restaurant was good. Overall a very good value, and would revisit again in the future!

We stayed for 4 nights. Rooms very clean, of course small but that is expected of Tokyo. Right next door to metro stop. Plenty of restaurants and convenience stores in the area. Washing machines/dryers great for those on longer trips. Staff helpful.

My partner and I stayed for a week, for out winter holiday. Never been to Tokyo (or Japan) before, so we picked the area and hotel based on online advice and that worked out nicely.

The pros: Very nicely located just north of the restaurant district of Shinjuku, and on top of a metro station with two crossing lines. The price was very affordable. Check in and out was swift and efficent. Relatively large bathroom. Free wifi.

The cons: The room was small, there's no denying it, but - as far as I understand - this is expected for Tokyo (at least in this price range). Also, the hotel was located next to a fairly busy intersection, which wasn't a bother except that it seemed all emergency vehicles used it all night long. The bed was a bit too hard.

Other: There was two restaurants within the hotel, and we intended to try both, but never got around to it.

Great location and room was very clean too. Service was very good. They actually helped me with the thermostat to warm up my room a bit to set in the comfortable stage. Wifi is very good. Housekeeping as usual. Change sheets and towels. Location? Can't complain. JR Rail is just around the corner and can get to anywhere you want. Get the suica card from the station. Highly recommended! Thank you Hotel Sunroute staffs!

A surprise snowy day may delay your friends for that appointment and the muddy roads could play havoc to that reliable Clarks that weren’t made for dunking, but no worries for you since Sunroute Higashi Shinjuku entrance is only a few steps away from the metro. One stop away from the main Shinjuku station – 2 options depending on which line you choose (Fukutoshin or Oedo). When you return make sure take the exit 3, else you will end up having to cross the road and walk. Small room (to save energy of course) but cosy (heated toilet seat too) and a spacious lobby for friends who aren’t allowed upstairs – the first time I have encountered such a rule in a hotel. I had to have my discussions in the lobby, with no table or chair, just a wide bench to be content with. With a few hours to kill before you are allowed to check-in, you can walk to Shinjuku town with big name shops and malls, seeing only young people around – I was informed that Shinjuku is more for the young ones. On the opposite direction towards Shinjuku, you can also walk from the hotel to find a 7-11, a bank to get that USD changed, the 100 Yen store and more restaurants. Even a Turkish kebab for those looking for halal food and a Korean stall that sells delicious bean/cheese/honey filled pancakes. The hotel room rate is high but that is what it goes for in Tokyo. Very helpful staffs I got during my 5-night stay.
