The aquarium isn't very large compared to some aquariums in large cities, but considering it's in the upper floors of a large mall, it's quite amazing. The tanks & exhibits are clean and there are some speciality tanks as well. My favorites are the cuttlefish and moon jellies which are both mesmerizing. I have been to this aquarium several times with and without my daughter; each time was worth the effort. The aquarium is a few short blocks away from the Ikebukuro train station and surrounded by many other activities, including a movie theater, varied dining and the typical Sega and other video game parlors which are frequent in Tokyo.

Just went there not knowing they did renovation. It was nice and clean, lots to see. There is a nice restaurant floor on the 3rd floor so it was very convenient. They have huge mall and Tokyu Hands across the street you can spend all day there.

I went to the Aquarium one typhoon day because there was no way to go out in Tokyo and the Sunshine City Prince Hotel, where I stayed, is part of a huge commercial complex of the same name, so there was no need to go out. I just took the elevator and there it was.

It's an interesting place full of regular old fish and then some very weird stuff.

It's family-friendly and has a show with a seal in an outdoor tank and lots of penguins.

Kind of out of your way if you're not staying in or around that area but it was a perfect diversion on a rainy day.

I don't think this is an aquarium worth making a whole trip for, but its worth being part of your day in you're in Toshima. The place is quite small for an aquarium but it's wonderfully laid out and has a lot to offer. There was a baby otter when I visited and he was absolutely adorable. The penguins are great fun, and its interesting to see the seal tank - I've never seen a design like this one before. All the fish tanks are well kept and interesting. The best part I think was the tunnel of moon jellies. It's got a great gift shop, and part of it is outside. The restaurant looked great, sadly I didn't go but most of the food was shaped like marine life (judging on the pictures)! Even if you've been to many aquariums this one won't disappoint as it has a little bit of everything.
