“Excellent hotel, clean, near major transportation, great for shopping”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 October 2013

We checked in this hotel in October 2013 (superior rooms, higher floors). The check in service was very quick and smooth. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The bell captain brought our luggage to our rooms and explained everything about the room and wi-fi. The hotel offers great breakfast buffet so ask for your discount coupon when checking in. We love shopping so this hotel was perfect as it is near the IKEBUKURO stations so there are many, many department stores within walking distance. Ikebukuro is almost like Shinjuku but less busy and less traffic. Major department stores are TOBU, SEIBU, LUMINE, ESOLA, Bigcamera, also some drugstores nearby as well (Matsumoto Kiyoshi). Ikebukuro has soooo many ramen shops and IZAKAYAs so must try! Convenience stores nearby as well (7-11, Family Mart, and Lawson) everything within two-minute walk. You can take trains to anywhere in Tokyo within 30 minutes. Very convenient.

Rooms: we had one double and one single room (all superior). The double room was an okay size for Tokyo. Beautifully decorated with all amenities, wi-fi, kettle, coffee/tea, fridge, TV, etc. Clean and nice bathroom provides bath salt, shampoo, conditioner, soap, women's amenities, etc. The single room was particularly spacious for a one person with a small couch and coffee table. Same amenities.

The hotel provides shuttle service to and from airport. Very convenient and only 3,000 yen with excellent service. We used to take the local trains or Narita Express, but we would now very much prefer to take the bus - no transfers and your luggage delivered for you. Best service and very convenient.

We have visited Tokyo over 10 times and would say that this is the best hotel so far. A little bit more expensive than budget hotels but definitely excellent service and LOCATION! I would prefer this than Hilton or Hyatt any day.

Thanks for reading!

Room Tip: Pick a superior room on the higher floor. Free wi-fi.

The hotel is conveniently located near Ikebukuro station, shops and a variety of dining places. There is also a convenient store nearby. Internet and wireless connection was fast. We had a complimentary room upgrade. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Highly recommended. Stayed in a Superior Room with free wi-fi which was very clean and had a pleasant view of the city. Conveniently accessible by Airport Limousine Bus. 3-min walk from Ikebukuro station which is connected to Lumine, Seibu and Tobu Department Stores. Excellent service rendered by Bell Captain, front desk and housekeeping. Will definitely go back again! :)

This is a good hotel in a nice part of Tokyo. The staff and service is pretty mediocre and definitely not top end. There are lots of things around and the train access is great. Overall, I do recommend however there are better places in Tokyo.

This hotel ticks all the boxes. Well located, decent price, acceptable quality, good amenities in and around the hotel, clean hotel, friendly staff etc, but it does not exceed expectations.

The rooms were rather small, although one imagines in Tokyo that would be about the standard, the breakfast and wifi were all additional charges to the room rate. The Breakfast at the restaurant in the lobby was a good spread but given that is excluded from the room rate i would rather then have breakfast elsewhere at a place of my choice.

The hotel was also inconvenient in that although some of the tour operators recognize it for pickups for tours, one particular one didn't which meant having to shuttle across town to the Hamamatsucho bus terminal which is not something one really wants to do in peak Tokyo traffic. The shuttles to the airport do however pickup from this hotel which works out well. Therefore a good hotel if there are no better options.

Very good location, especially if you are new to Tokyo. You can find the hotel so easily, it is so close to metro station. They have upgraded my room at the very first sight, it was small but very comfortable. The view from the room was nice. I spent there 2 nights without any problem and rested well.

LOCATION: The hotel is located close to the subway and Ikebukuro train station. The hotel is located a little off the main roads, and that helps ensure you do not hear too much of the traffic from the streets. 7 Elevens and Family Mart are just minutes away and a MOS Burger joint is located just across the street. The Tobu and Seibu department stores are in the neighborhood and linked to the station.

LOBBY: The lobby is very spacious with sufficient counters to cater to most of the customers. The lobby is elegantly decorated and is located next to the primary restaurant in the hotel. The staff are quite friendly and cooperative.

CHECK-IN / CHECK-OUT: As the purchase was made on an online booking site, the check-in and check-out process was smooth.

STAFF: All members of the staff were friendly and helpful. House Keeping, room service and technical staff were very prompt in their response to requests.

ROOMS: The rooms I found a little disappointing. Although the room was comfortable, I was expecting a more spacious room. We were on the Superior Floor and there were too many individual rooms on those floors. The bathrooms were small, but not claustrophobic. The room itself had enough space for a queen sized bed, one side of which was against the wall, and some space for a seating area next to the window. This obviously meant that there was only one bed side table. We had two large suitcases and accommodating them was a little difficult, but manageable.

AMENITIES: This is where the Hotel Metropolitan Tokyo needs to improve drastically. As a standard, there was no drinking water being offered on a daily basis. The choice of hot beverages being offered was limited. An ironing board could be rented for an hour on a first come first serve basis - again, this should be a standard on at least the superior or executive floors. The safe was hard to locate, as usually, it is located near the wardrobe or cupboard area. The safe in our room was housed, very discreetly, in the bottom drawer of the bedside table. The face of the safe was facing up as you opened the drawer, and was a little difficult to hold the door open.

On the positive side, they had provided sleeping suits for the guests. The shampoo and conditioner were not in mini containers - they were full sized containers, and the quality of the products were excellent.

TELEVISION: The TV channels had very limited options for English speaking viewers - possibly just a few news channels like CNN and BBC - another major downside. Paid movies were available and could be billed either on your room or you could buy a card that is located opposite one of the rooms on the floor, next to the ice vending machine. The subscription however was only available for limited periods of time - you could access paid channels between 2 p.m. to 8 a.m - not sure why there was such a limited availability for paid channels.

DINING: Most of the packages offered on the net did not have an option for breakfast. We had on occasions thought of having breakfast at the restaurant, but the waiting time was too long. There were too many people waiting for a seat outside the restaurant, even though the restaurant was very spacious. I guess it shows how popular the establishment was.

INTERNET: Wi-Fi within the room was free and allowed multiple devices to connect at the same time. Signal and strength was excellent.

OVERALL: For the price paid, the accommodation option was very reasonable. Free breakfast or breakfast as part of a package, basic amenities like water and iron or ironing board etc. will greatly improve the overall worth of this establishment.
