“If Basic is All You're Looking For ...”
Reviewed 2 December 2013

Hotel Yanagibashi - convenient location, a 5-min walk to Asakusabashi Station with only one stop to Akihabara Station on the JR Yamanote Line. Many restaurants nearby. Twin en-suite bathroom was small and tight. Both beds were placed side by side length-wise so it was hard to reach 2nd bed without climbing over first bed. Smallest bathroom ever but very clean. Pillows were EXTREMELY thick, hard, and heavy. This was uncomfortable. Door only had one lock, no dead-bolt. Walls were paper thin. Just sleep & shower, that's it. Staff was pleasant. If you're looking to stay out and explore all day and come home to sleep and shower, Hotel Yanagibashi fits the bill.

4 day stay ending a week+ stay in Asakusa area, moving from a hostel.

Rooms are definitely really tiny. I packed light and small, so it worked out fine, though it did get a bit crowded when checking out.

Room keys have a huge plastic block attached to them - likely to make them easier to keep track of, though this does it make it slightly unwieldy to carry around when wandering around Tokyo.

It was a good stay in Japan. Normally you dun expect much in a budget hotel, but if you are looking for one, this will be the one I highly recommend. Location is good, the Asakuabashi station is less than 10 minutes walk across the road. A few of convenient stores and fast food shops are nearby, all walking distance. Hotel room was neat and tidy, though small, but it's acceptable for a budget hotel in such a reasonable price. Wifi available only in the lobby. Staff were nice and helpful.

I chose this hotel on the basis of good trip advisor reviews and was so surprised by what I found I logged onto the internet to check they were really reviewing the same place. This hotel was set up for businessmen in the 1970s and has had almost no money spent on it since. Consequently the businessmen have long since moved on to other places and the hotel has only managed to keep going by rebranding itself as a hotel for budget-conscious tourists. The rooms are depressing, very small and claustrophobic with horribly dated furnishings. The view from most rooms is of a wall about 1m away. The entrance to the hotel is cluttered and the office looks chaotic. However there are several redeeming features:

1) Asakusabashi is a convenient location with a direct rail connection to both Narita and Haneda airports (at certain times of day you will need to change trains). The Toei Asakusa line has other useful stations such as Nihombashi and Higashi Ginza and of course Asakusa itself. The hotel is very close to the station.

2) The hotel is family run in a city dominated by corporate chains. The daughter Tomoko is particularly pleasant and helpful, speaking good English. They are relatively flexible about arrival and departure times. We were given a lovely box of place mats on a departure which was very sweet of them.

3) The hotel is undeniably cheap by Tokyo standards (although not that much cheaper than the Toyoko-inn hotel located on the other side of the station). Also the Japanese breakfast (a rice stew with miso soup and pickles) is recommended and good value.

Overall I guess whether you go for this hotel depends on your priorities....

Hotel is very near to subway and JR lines. Room is clean. Very reasonable price. Internet Wifi seems not stable but still manageable. Very nice staff, they noticed I don't have an umbrella when it was raining during my check out, they just gave it away. Arigato gozaimas!

Cheap and Cheerful....does what it says on the tin....friendly staff, clean room and right where you want to be in Tokyo

If you want the Ritz this isn't it but if you want affordable and well located then this will do fine.

Room is small like any other budget stay but sufficient.
Had a air-con double room with water kettle, hair dryer and mini fridge.
Room was clean and cosy, toilet was a bit squeezy for me. I am 5"10 ish, takes a little getting used to for the toilet.
Hotel service was great, the staff speaks english and always ready to assist you.
I left tokyo for kyoto for 2 days and left my main luggage with the hotel's counter. You may consider the same option.

Hotel location was pretty good, 5 minutes from Asakusabashi Station. 1 stop away Akihabara Station. 3 stops from Tokyo Station. Straight JR train (Chuo Local) to Shinjuku. 2 subway stops from Asakusa Station (Sensouji Temple). 3 subway stops from Oshiage Station (SkyTree).

Now the bad, wifi was only available at the lobby. And only 2 small pillows for guests.
Nonetheless it was a good stay!

Note: There's this cheap and yummy beef rice bowl opposite Asakusabashi Station while walking to the hotel.
