“Not Tenryu-ji, but BO Tokyo”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2013

The winner in vegetarian that we saw in Tokyo and a delightful setting! Perfect lunch after doing Tokyo National Museum. Sitting overlooking the zen water garden was fine. Tofu in many fine ways. Share w friends (I know, not Nihongo kosher to do) because wasn't bad dish on menu.

“Tofu extraordinaire”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 April 2013

If you can manage to find this little gem, I'd highly recommend it. A multi-course dinner of tofu prepared as many ways as you can imagine. Subtle flavours yes, but absolutely delicious. In a beautiful tatami mat room

“Tofu Paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2012

Sasa-no-Yuki is a old-school Tokyo tatami-style restaurant (take shoes off on the way in) in Taito. Its multi-course tofu feast will give you more different varieties of tofu than you may ever have dreamed possible--and they are all delicious. This was an unforgettable Tokyo experience.

“Amazing experience - I never knew you could do so much with tofu!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 February 2012

This restaurant has a modest front and is in a rather industrial part of Tokyo, and is
less than 5 minutes' walk from Uguisudani JR Station (one stop north of Ueno). But when you walk in, it is almost like entering another world: serene; like a relic of yesteryear.

The traditional Japanese way of serving food is extremely dainty and attractive (little ornate dishes atop a big lacquered tray). The tofu courses are truly innovative, and each dish is varied and unique - silken tofu, a rice broth sprinkled with firm tofu, sesame tofu cake, tofu ice cream... and they are all amazingly delicious. The dining area looks out onto a beautiful internal courtyard with a Japanese landscape, the guests sit on tatami mats, and the staff are in kimono.

There is an a la carte menu but the simplest thing to do seems to be to order from the set menu, which is basically a taster menu. We ordered the 9-course menu which cost 2,600yen, and found it to be a very comfortable amount of food for lunch.

I have recommended this place to family and friends, and I think it is a unique and very memorable experience. Definitely one of the top highlights from our latest trip.

“And the mystery ingredient is... Tofu!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 May 2011

Like an Iron Chef episode, the theme of this 300+ year old restaurant is all tofu all the time. There is a choice of two (or was it three) set menus that start at 7 courses, each with the venerable tofu as the main attraction. Despite our love of meats and fish, lunch at Sasanoyuki was one of our top three meal highlights.
