“Convenient location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 December 2013

We stayed at the Mitsui Garden Hotel at Ueno for 3 nights and were satisfied with the all round quality of our room. The bedroom was a bit small but the bed provided an excellent nights sleep. Train (Skyliner) bound for Narita airport is only 10-minute walk and its easy to go to places around Tokyo by train or subway.

Located a few steps, or simply next to Ueno subway exit, this hotel is perfect.
Check in was smooth, and our room was available a bit earlier (2pm instead of 3 pm check in time). Staff speaks a good level of English, and quite helpful to help us arrange our sightseeing route.

Room was larger than a usual Japanese hotel room, though not really budget friendly. Bathroom is on an upper scale compared to other budget Japanese hotels' bathrooms, which is not a cabin-like.

Too bad we only stayed at this hotel for 1 night only, and had to leave for airport very early by the next morning.

If you are reaching from NRT airport or to NRT, the ueno-keihan station is actually a bit further away. around 15 minutes of walking through the underground station and tunnel. WHile the Tokyo subway station and Ueno JR station is simply next step.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view, you will find yourself facing the Tokyo Skytree.

Located a 2 minute walk from Ueno station, which is pretty central and allows you to get to most of the tourist centres of Tokyo within 30 minutes, this hotel is a great stay.

The rooms are of a fair size, they're not large but they are perfect if you just want a hotel to serve as a base and don't plan on spending too much time in. The bed's are comfortable and clean, the decor modern and sophisticated. The bathroom is clean and stocked with shower gel, shampoo, toothbrush/paste etc. The serving staff spoke basic English but it was enough to get checked in and out without any hitches. Room rates are reasonable as long as you are not expecting a luxury hotel.

If you want a hotel to offer to a clean bedroom in a central location where you can relax after a long day in Tokyo then this hotel is perfect for you. If you want luxury, move on.

Rooms are small which is expected in japan. Looks really nice, lobby and rooms.
Their decoration of fairies is really cute.

location is really good. Train is just a couple mins walk, and subway is just round the corner. And since its in Ueno, easy to get to places on the train and subway.
Lots of shops and shopping centres around the hotel.
Theres a few popular sightseeing spots thats nearby.
Theres a 24-7 convient store across the road which is good if you suddenly need food or drinks in the middle of the night.

The cleaners were the most friendly staff. They all look so lovely ad greet you whenever they see you in the most cheerful way.
Other team member staff wasnt as helpful. When we checked out and asked can they call is a taxi, they had to have a wee talk and then told us to "go outside and stick your arm out." Rather rude, feel like since we checked out they just want us to leave asap.

I was planning on staying at Mitsui Garden Hotel. The price is very reasonable and the location is convenient. I was hoping to visit a couple nice restaurants in Tokyo and requested their assistance making the reservations. They informed me that will not make the reservations for me before I arrive. This is frustrating because many restaurants require the hotel to make the reservation for you. They will not accept reservations from you directly.

So I canceled my stay at Mitsui Garden Hotel and booked a different hotel. Given that many restaurants require hotel concierges to make reservations, it's pretty annoying that they won't help. It just takes a minute to call a restaurant.

This hotel is located right where the transfer train from the airport stops. (Ueno station) It's located in an old part of town where you can enjoy wonderful markets, food and still be downtown on the subway in no time. The rooms are small, but have a fridge, and coffemaker etc. Very clean and excellent service.

Room Tip: Pay a little more for the legroom!

Checked in on Fri for 2 nights with my girl friend and got a room on the higher floors facing Ueno station.

Room 4/5:
The place is very new, clean with smart trendy design. I really liked the view facing Ueno station but what's more impressive is the fact you get to see but not hear a thing from all the hustle and bustle! Size is pretty decent by Tokyo standard and the bed is alright - overall very comfortable stay.

Convenience 4/5:
The Metro is right at your door step and the JR is only 5min away across the bridge. Ueno is a well connected station, but I felt the location is a little overrated because the journey to a lot of the sightseeing areas down south or west is >30min. This is consistent with what my Japanese colleagues thinks. On the upside there's everything you need in the area in terms of food and necessities next to the JR (South side). The area is very local and feels very down to earth. Japan's google transit is awesome and accurate to the minute for trains/metro. So use that to guage whether Ueno is the place for you.

Service/Facility 3/5:
Don't expect much at this price range but the service was friendly and helpful. You do get reliable wifi in the room, but look elsewhere if you need sports facilities, business centers or something more luxurious.

Value 4/5:
For 15000 a night this is not a bad shout. You get a very comfortable room in a good location. Those who are looking for something simple that works and prefer to spend money elsewhere should definitely consider this hotel.

Room Tip: Go for the higher floors as I couldn't hear a thing from the outside.
