My son & I stayed 8 nights in this quiet neighborhood that is close to the metro and sky liner to the airport!! Our hosts were very accommodating. The room gave us a cultural experience but gave us the option of a western bathroom. During our stay we were able to get on the metro and see all the sights of Tokyo. The neighborhood was quiet with a lot of small businesses & small restaurants where you can try the great food. This ryokan was a great find and highly recommended!

I picked this ryokan becuase the reviews, and it didn't dissapointed me!
Either traveling alone, family (with kids) or group this is a great introduction to Japan. First, the ryokan is located in the Ueno area (old town) of Tokyo very close to the JR station: Nippori, and the subway station: Sendagi (on the green line Chiyoda).
Second, the neighborhood has the Japan scene, little shops and restaurants. Plus it is very affordable!
Also, I won't forget that we're very acomodated when I needed to change my reservation, because my husband decided to stay in Tokyo one more night.
Thank you for a great experience! We'll be here for one more night!

This ryokan is very convenient, as it is fairly close to Nippori Station, the first drop-off of the Skyliner from Narita Airport. To get to it, you go through a very authentic Japanese market, where one can find heaps of trinkets and food stalls. I would recommend the last bento shop before you make the bend to Annex Katsutaro. I would also highly recommend the coffee shop (fairly strong coffee!) around 3 shops away from the Annex. They actually roast the beans onsite so you get it pretty fresh.

Only issue with Annex is that some of the rooms can be small. The family ones can definitely fit two adults and one, maybe even, two kids. However, the rooms for two people can be a wee bit claustrophobic - which is standard in Japanese rooms sometimes.

This is a lovely, small and quite genuin Japanes ryokan hotel (though we only saw foreigners as guests). The location is great: three minutes to the metro and ten minutes walk to Nippori station where the train from Narita airport stops. And the area is so nice! There is a market that on the street to the station and a lot of good restaurants. We went to a great Indian restarurant about 6 minutes from the hotel (on the way to Nippori) but unfortunately I've forgotten the name.

We stayed in a large room for 4 people, although we are a family of 5 (children aged 5, 10 and 12). The room was not that big but it was OK for us for four nights. The tatami beds were really comfortable!

We never had breakfast at the hotel. It seemed expensive for what you got. But we used the computers in the lobby a lot. The wifi in the room didn't work so well.

This is no luxury hotel, and it costs more than many other hotels in other parts of Asia (we have travelled a lot in South East Asia and got used to the low prices there), but hey! You are in Tokyo, and for that the price is definately reasonable.

My friends and me stayed at the Annex Katsutaro in Taito for 2 nights in May and enjoyed it a lot! The owners were very helpful and the traditional japanese room were a cool experience. The are where it is located is a quiet traditional zone in Tokyo, where you can breathe all the japanese culture. The Position is also good due to the Close subway Station of Sendaji and Nippori.

I can only recommend this Ryokan and would return for sure!

Great hotel, with good and spacious (Japanese standards!) rooms, nice staff, convenient on location coin laundry (although using hours are limited and can get crowded in the evening).

Location is excellent, with direct access to the skyline for Narita, JR and Metro lines, and at the heart of the yanaka district, surrounded by small temples and shrines as well as great street eateries.

Will definitely return!

Lots of great restaurants, walkable to airport train. Just spent an overnight due to flight connections. Front Desk speaks english. Price is right for the neighborhood and quality of stay. Above a backpacker place for sure.
