Asakusa in one of my favorite tourist destination in tokyo. It has a traditional atmosphere, perfect for sight seeing. And also a place to buy souvenirs with reasonable prices

“Dream Come True!”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

I read about Asakusa in my sophomore year and was amazed about its magnificent review. So I said to myself I'd like to visit this magnificent temple if I ever get the chance to go to Japan. So when I went there, it was like a dream come true! It was as great as the review and even better! You will find amazing Japanese temple combined with their authentic culture. Also, you will find lots of mouthwatering food stall along the way. Its a must visit place!

“A traditional place in a 22nd Century town !”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

When I first started traveling to Tokyo in 1989, I decided to live (for months on end) at a ryokan (a kind of rough "inn", tatame as a mattress and no pillows. Rooms divided up by rice paper walls and you're up at 5am , no matter what. It's because of the carps screaming (and they do scream loud just as cocks and hens), or because of the ryokan owner or manager is chucking out of your room. Then, it's quickly down to a Japanese breakfast (rice, salmon, seaweed, pumpkin and NO SIGHT of coffee) and, right after that, into a hot / boiling bath. And you MUST be out by 11am. The place is NOT a hotel so, you're encouraged to find things to do all day long.
Asakusa is a Shinto district of Tokyo - not that far from Ueno Train Station, and it's traditional costumes and customs and eateries are notorious. This is the beauty of Japan: the old and the new, the super old and the super new, living side by side.
Enjoy your stay.

“Best tourist shopping in Tokyo”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

This is my 2nd time to Asakusa temple with 3 friends in May 2014. Overall I would highly recommend this place as one of the best places in Japan (along with Kyoto centre) for tourist souvenir shopping. There are an array of things you can buy, for example: traditional Japanese clothes, swords, porcelain Maneki-neko (cats), saki and tea sets, chopsticks etc. There is also a Studio Ghibli store here. At the end of the street of shops, there is the Asakusa temple which is reasonably nice with both traditional prayer sticks and traditional hand washing facilities. The park area on the left the temple is worth a visit as well.

“worth a walk”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

I guess most people do come to Asakusa and visit the Sensoji temple. It is quite a touristy district due to popularity of the temple, but the area is quite pleasant to walk around. There are numerous small temples, various shops and some old-world stuff around.
