“Great place”
Reviewed 15 September 2013

I have stayed here before and I will stay here again! The staff are really lovely, they even dressed in traditional gear and put on a little party for us one night! It is a great location when coming from Narita airport and it is between Asakusa and Ueno so I have walked to both areas to exlpore. The doonas are lovely too :)

If you're traveling on a budget (and if not) and looking for a cool, quiet and friendly hotel, the oak is the place for you!
The single room was small, but had everything I needed, including enough room to practice yoga. And have a cup of tea afterwards.
The kitchen is sufficient to cook a nice meal.
The staff is really nice and helpful and the location is good, but not noisy. You can get to the subway or the JR lines in minutes, and it's really close to the wonderful asakusa area.
Don't think twice. Book a room.

I was traveling to Tokyo over the weekend of the Sumida firework festival, and there were very few places to stay in central Tokyo. This was one of the last three hostels I was able to find on the internet that had availability the entire length of my stay. The accomodations were more like a hotel than a hostel - a private room with private bath. There was also a television, water heater, and daily maid service to tidy the room. This was beyond my expectations for the price of the room. The Oak Hotel is within walking distance from the Ueno station, from which you can access the rest of the city-wide subway system.

Room Tip: Not many rooms have a view, since the hotel is set back a bit behind the main street.

Chose the Japanese Room.
Room was functional with basic amenities and wifi.

Computers available to use at the reception area, convenient and handy for us to check train timings and our next destination directions.
Staff spoke english, helpful with directions and gave us map.
Decent ramen store opposite, 15 minutes walk to Asakusa area, around 10mins to Ueno Station.
Would not come back as price is considered high for what we got.

Good location. Close to Ueno station which has excellent links to other parts of Tokyo on the JR lines and also the bullet trains for the rest of Japan. Plenty of shops and restaurants around, particularly with Asakusa nearby (15 min walk). Also good for Ueno Park with the zoo and various museums etc.

Hotel itself is clean with friendly staff. Rooms are quite small but have everything you need. Bathroom was very clean and was cleaned everyday. Showers were nice and hot. Good free wifi and use of pc's downstairs. Loads of info in reception about where to go and what to do.

Would recommend.

Oak hotel was just a 10 minute walk from Ueno station. The area has tons of restaurants and bars close by. The hotel was clean, and the people at reception friendly. The rooms were small, but that is pretty standard in Japan. Tokyo was a great city, and oak hostel is a nice place to stay.

It's close to the Ueno station about 10minutes at the most, there are plenty of coveiniance stores nearby. The staff are helpful and will help you as best they can and are all English speaking.

The rooms are quite small and the bathrooms tiny but it's Tokyo so unless you want to pay sky high prices get used to it. The rooms are clean, air conditioned and get cleaned everyday with new towels being dropped.

Overall a present stay and I would stay again for sure.
