“Great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2014

Since I had limited time in Tokyo this hotel was a great choice. Getting there from Narita was easy with the skyliner and the hotel is really close to the station! Room was clean, the staff were super all friendly, and even the room by Japanese standards seemed spacious to me.

My only complaint would be the wifi, it's a bit annoying with the code system thing where you gotta keep asking for a new pass from the reception, and the internet was just slow all the time. Maybe my room was too far from the router as even the signal was always poor. No big deal really, and I would stay here again for sure!

I was perfectly happy with my stay at this hotel. I stayed for 19 days, so I had a good amount of time to fully assess it! I got the room at a very reasonable rate considering its central location in Tokyo, and for the quality of stay I received. This is by no means a glamorous, luxury hotel, but for the price you will probably be paying, you get EXCELLENT quality and value for money in my opinion! My overall impression was fantastic and I will definitely use this hotel again for any stays in Tokyo.

Starting with the significantly smaller negatives, the only points which I would want to see improved were: 1) no kettle in my hotel room but I probably could have had one if I had asked 2) my hairdryer seemed a bit dodgy, the plug heated up when I used it and that worried me a little! 3) Most importantly, the internet service was quite poor. There was a new password every day which was fine, and there seemed to be a lot of wifi network options to join within the hotel, but I could never connect using my laptop in my room, only a little bit on my phone. If wifi is extremely important to you (bearing in mind it is almost impossible to find free wifi anywhere in Japan) then this hotel may not be such a good option, although I think that reception might have been better in the lobby? I really think it would be in the interests of the hotel to improve their wifi bearing this in mind! 4) no view, but this is Tokyo, where buildings are rammed up against each other, so good views from windows are far and few between! If you spend your days out and about exploring Tokyo you won't have any need for a view from your room! The lack of view actually led to my room being very quiet, I think!

Otherwise, everything was great. The bed was clean and comfortable, the room was small but if you expect anything else you probably shouldn't be visiting Japan! The TV worked well, there was also a working mini fridge. The water was hot (and yes the bath was Japanese style - small and rectangular, but again this is standard in Japan - when in Rome! Leave your preconceptions about what size a hotel room/bath should be in your home country! There is no point in complaining about the size of these things in Japan, where everything is much smaller!) and bearing in mind the hotel was in Ueno, my room was perfectly quiet at night. The staff were friendly too! The housekeeping staff were fantastic, always working hard and always saying hello. The reception staff also made an effort to speak English even when I spoke Japanese to them, and there was always someone around to help (even to lift my suitcase down the short flight of stairs at the front of the hotel as I was getting quite heavily pregnant when I stayed - oh yes, this hotel isn't step free for any disabled visitors, there is a small flight of stairs at the entrance, maybe 5 or 6 steps). The area was quiet and safe even late at night (some parts of Ueno, south-west of the Keisei station, are quite unsavoury, but the hotel was right on the other side in a quieter, less lively area so I felt perfectly safe as a lone, female traveller! Most parts of Ueno are totally fine and family/tourist-friendly!).

Best of all, the hotel was very close to the station, and if you take the underground route there is a 100% stepfree route from both the Keisei station (which goes to and from Narita airport) and Ueno station. It takes a little while to get used to the underground route, but if you leave the Keisei station, and follow signs for Ueno station and the Hibiya line, then head for exits 2 and 3 at the main station (the lift you want it somewhere between the two exits so you don't need to follow all the way to these exits), and start to follow signs for Lost Property, you should see a lift down a short passage, halfway along a corridor where the lost property office is. Sorry, these instructions are not very clear but if you do manage to find the lift it is perfect as you are brought up very close to the end of the road that the hotel is on and it cuts out having to go outside and battle the crowds or go up and down the steps on the huge overhead walkway with your cases!

This place is for everyone, whether solo or with family this place has a nice feel less noisy close to stations for trains or metro everything is within walkable distance, very friendly people and it has two restaurants inside. so you dont have to go look outside for japanese food..........

Room Tip: Very pleasant place to stay, away from the main street so less noisy and 5 min walk to ueno station...

I can't say enough about the location and the super friendly staff in this lovely small hotel. Being family run, the service is excellent! My rooms ( I stayed there twice) were clean, simple & roomy by Japanese standards unless you want the big corporate experience. There's an amazing Japanese restaurant ( you'll want to try the Chub Chubu there) and coffee shop right on premises. A 2 minute walk down a quiet street to the hustle & bustle of the center of Ueno (and Starbuck's if thats your thing), the subway and Ueno's major Train station. About 4 minute walk to the markets and lots of shopping.
And yes... Thank God! ... one of the owners speaks impeccable English :-)

Room Tip: The Hello Kitty room is absolutely adorable if you have kids or fans

This is the best business hotel at Ueno area in Tokyo.
The location is very close to the Ueno Station and convenience to go to anywhere in Tokyo.
Hotel staff are polite and they provide people a warm hospitality.
Highly recommended!

The best thing I like this hotel is the friendliness of the staffs. They are very helpful & I have to say their English level are quite good (well, compare to most staffs in restaurants then).
The 2nd best thing is their free wifi in rooms. Although you need to request for password , which changes everyday, at front desk. (I stayed 5 nights)
Then certainly is its location near the JR station & Tokyo metro stations, both are equipped with elevators which is rare & important for a solo female visitor like me.
I don't think the room is small, it's standard size I mean, when compare with all business hotels in Tokyo, if not the whole Japan.
Convenient stores nearby, breakfast is okay.
The only thing I have to mention is the bath. It's very difficult to adjust the temperature. The hot water tap has serious delay problem. I'm not used to it even in my 5th night.....
But don't make that stop you, it's a very nice hotel!

Room Tip: If you can read some Japanese, book at "jalan.net" which offers 50~30%off rooms
