“Good budget hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 February 2011

We only stayed here for one night as a stop off measure on the way from Tokyo to Kawaguchiko, so wanted somewhere cheap yet clean and comfortable. That's exactly what the Bemonte was. It was cheap for Tokyo - about £50 - and, even though the room was small (and the bed - one of those Japanese semi-doubles) it was comfortable enough for two hideously jet-lagged travellers, and very clean. It had a small TV and yukatas and slippers were provided. It was also close to Akihabara - within walking distance, but one or two short stops on the JR train. I probably wouldn't stay there for longer if I wanted some luxury, but for a cheap and cheerful place to stay in Tokyo, it is great. We even got a small gift each (a Japanese bag) on check-out.

Typical to Japanese business hotels, the rooms are small and the bathroom is even smaller.

We decided to take this hotel since it has no curfew (for some reason, many hotels in Japan have a curfew), and the room has a fridge. Having read no reviews, we were worried the location would be bad, but it turns out that the hotel is located in a quiet area, within 5 minutes walking distance to a Chuo line station, and 15 minutes walking distance to Akihabara and the Akihabara yamanote line station (Chuo and yamanote are the only lines we needed to get where we wanted in Tokyo).

The room comes with a T.V set, refrigerator, hair dryer, water heater, toothbrushes and toothpaste, shaving razors, shampoo, soap, small eating set, radio and air conditioning. The only downside of the room is that it was poorly lit.

Our floor had soft drinks vending machines, and the lobby sold drinks and snacks.

The hotel has its own restaurant that we have never tried.

The lobby is staffed 24 hours, and was very friendly and happy to help. However, they spoke very little English. At one occasion we tried to ask if the hotel offers an internet connection. They sent us to a nearby internet cafe, and we figured that the answer is "no'. On the last night, however, we saw a little sign at the lobby saying "free wifi at the lobby".

Due to no available double room, we ordered a twin room and used the extra bed to house our luggage, which sort of solved the room size problem for us.

For the price we paid, this hotel was a great value and I'm glad we picked it.

  • Liked — Location, amenities, price.
  • Disliked — Poor room illuminance, staff speaks little English
