This bookshop is in the heart of Castle Cary, a lovely market town filled with independent shops offering a wide selection of goods. Whilst strolling round do not miss visiting Bailey Hill Bookshop, ( which is no longer situated on Bailey Hill, where it first originated some time ago)
I am a nervous book buyer and am daunted by shops like Waterstones and feel intimidated by the sheer quantity of books. Yet I have bought more books in the last few years of shopping in the Bailey Hill Bookshop than in 40 years! Lynn, the owner, and her lovely ladies that help run the shop are most helpful and can order anything within 24hrs. What I like is to have listened to a small part of a book review programme on the radio,be unable to quite remember the title or the author of an interesting sounding book, yet Lynn can piece together the sketchy details I give her, and tell me what the book is I am wanting to buy!
Service that Amazon certainly cannot do unless mind-reading is part of its repertoire!
The shop is beautifully laid out for easy browsing and interesting titles left on tables for a closer look. You can even get a superb coffee with cake whilst you are making your mind up.
There is also a wide range of second hand books and unusual greeting cards.
