Stayed here for 2 nights (single room) for a family reunion. Room was a big disappointment. Extremely dated décor, plumbing and fittings. At least the bedding was fresh and clean. Reminiscent of a night spent on an overnight ferry! Floor undulated and no two wall surfaces were level. I understand from the Manager that the upstairs rooms are due for a major refit. Breakfast was excellent - lots of choice - swift service and well presented.
Sunday lunch came with the biggest Yorkshire pudding I have ever seen!
Popular with locals (World Cup Football during my stay!) and a great selection of cakes if you only wanted a coffee break during the day.

Room Tip: Until this hotel is renovated, chose a local Premier Inn

Good old local pub. Ideal for our group of ten. Management offered us a private room for dinner & breakfast. Good food & hospitality. Friendly & helpful staff made up for tired rooms. Great value for the price.

Meeting up with a friend in Castle Cary we popped into the George for a coffee. Upon seeing the attractive array of cakes and cookies we also elected to share a huge piece of chocolate and Malteser cake. This was a great decision. It was absolutely delicious!Staff were welcoming. The coffee was nicely presented and served.

There were so many different areas in which to sit we were spoiled for choice. We found a nice comfortable secluded corner and enjoyed a pleasant hour catching up on each other’s news.

This is a most attractive hotel situated in the centre of a bustling market town.

I would certainly recommend a visit.

We’ve been here a couple of times now, food is absolutely amazing. However service sadly lets it down. Staff look miserable, they take a long time to clear plates and take orders. We waited just over an hour just for our desserts!! We recently re visited again to see if it had improved and sadly it hasn’t. There were about 4 members of staff in front of our table just chatting loudly and eating cake (one being a chef) the young blonde girl who served us was very blunt and didn’t smile the whole time we were there. We asked for more peppercorn sauce and it was as if we’d made some huge request. It’s such a shame because the food never lets us down! I honestly think the staff really need to pull their fingers out.
