“Comfortable stay”
Reviewed 21 April 2014

This was a pleasant little hotel. We had a room by the outside door which was ideal for us having 2 dogs. The room was clean and we had a very well cooked breakfast. Staff were friendly and helpful. Parking outside was a bit difficult and can't be guaranteed. It is close to the beach also handy if you have dogs it's not far when they need their morning walk.

I picked this hotel rather than a bread and breakfast because I prefer not to go searching round for somewhere to eat at the end of the day. I arrived early evening on a Sunday after a 5-hour drive from Somerset. I went to the room to unpack and freshen up, then went back down just after 7 o'clock to get something to eat. When I got downstairs, the whole ground floor was locked up and in darkness!
As it was my first time in Gorleston, I had no idea where else I could get something to eat on a Sunday evening in February, so ended up back in my room eating cereal bars that I had brought with me.
The room was basic, with a tiny en-suite. There was quite a bit of noise from the other guests and the door in the corridor squeaked. The sink was too small to use to fill the kettle. The bed was comfortable and clean.
Breakfast was OK, and the other evening meals were fine.
The only parking is on a very crowded road outside. If there are no parking spaces outside, you might well have to park on the road on the sea front.

Expensive for a very basic hotel. Parking was down on the seafront - no good for people with mobility problems. Carpets were dirty in hallway and dining room. Breakfast was very basic. Accessible room had bed squashed by a wall so one person had to climb over the other to get in and out of bed - Not suitable for disabled people! There was a single bed in the room as well ,but round a corner so you could not see one another. We asked for help with luggage and the girl was not happy to help despite both of us being disabled. She did so very begrudgingly. Will never stay here again.

This was by far the worst hotel we have stopped in. There was no atmosphere and no chef to cook dinner although we were told that food was available when we booked. The room was cold and looked nothing like the on-line pictures. The bathroom was basic and the shower semi-blocked with hair and gunge although it was cleared the next day after complaining. Although the cooked breakfast was freshly prepared and quite good, we were the only ones in the dining room and we noticed that cleaning materials and a vacuum cleaner were left on show. The internet gave the impression that the hotel was nearly full but we only saw 4 or 5 other guests the second night and only one other couple the first night. The bar was dingy and un-inviting and on both evenings closed even though we returned, having had to go out for a meal, just after 10-30pm. We were told that there was plenty of street parking but we had to park some distance from the hotel which was very inconvenient because the weather was not good. The entrance to the hotel was scruffy and the place looked as if it needed a good clean. The mistake we made was not turning round and leaving as soon as we arrived but they had already taken our money for the first night.

Room Tip: Don't bother to choose a good room - choose another hotel!!

I will start with the two good things - comfy bed and very good breakfast.
Now the rest ! - It tells you everything when you arrive at a hotel to chek in and the first sign you see at the bar is:
Last orders at 10.40 - finish your drinks by 11 and leave quickly
mmmmmmm I wish I had !!!
at 10.02am there was a loud knocking on our bedroom door and a voice shouted "checkout is at 10am"
I shouted back " we are booked in for another night"
The voice then said "sorry" BUT how poor is that ? Chasing customers out for overstaying by 2 mins (or not)
Would NEVER stay here again
Nasty smell as you walk in and no customer interaction at all
Very poor

Room Tip: Book somewhere else

Booked at the very last minute, and we travelled with our border collie. A lovely welcome from William and Jo and their family, including their border collie! We could not have been looked after better, lots of great local recommendations and advice and they gave us a ground floor room, which many hotels neglect to even think about and is such a help when travelling with our four legged friend. We had the best time and would definitely go back. Gorleston-on-Sea is lovely, a great base to explore the Broads, Southwold etc., and we were very lucky with the weather. Rooms and ensuites were sparkling clean, although bathroom door could do with a couple of hooks!! Thanks so much for a great couple of days.

We stayed here because it was by the sea and not too far from my nephew's wedding venue. We hadn't been to Gorleston-on-sea before so did not know what to expect. The hotel was fine - about the standard we expected. We had 4 rooms in total. All the rooms we occupied were well furnished however my son's room had cobwebs by the window; apart from that it was clean and furnished to a good standard. My family liked the breakfast, although there was little choice which was a shame, because what we had was well cooked, hot and served quickly. We found the staff friendly and helpful. we would certainly stay here again in future. Hope they improve the choice at breakfast though! Gorleston itself was ok - excellent beach for children - clean and sandy with lots to do.
