La Haute Manceliere
Reviewed 25 June 2012

Our party consisted of my wife and I along with our daughter and her husband and their 3 year old daughter. Booking was simple and payment easy and the journey from the tunnel at Calais was no problem at all. Susan is as charming as she is efficient and she has thought of everything so that the accommodation rivals our own back home. The heated swimming pool was a joy and young children are spoilt for choice with the array of swings, slides and of course the very popular trampoline. There are bikes of all sizes provided for the guests. The weather by and large was fine and one evening we made use the barbi, sitting out until10.00pm when it was still light and warm. For my part I enjoyed the evenings watching the Euro 2012 football matches as the cottages are able to get UK TV channels - bonus.

There are plenty of places to visit and the coast at St Malo about 60 minutes away boasts of some long excellent beaches.

This is the place to visit if you have young children or are just a couple with a grown up family. Our grandaughter was never bored and the adults had a wonderful relaxing time.

This was our second visit to the cottages and we stayed in the smaller 4 bed gite. Even though the weather was dull for much of the week we had a fabulous time. Susan was as accommodating as ever and the surrounding area has loads to do. The cottages are well equipped and the pool this year was up to 28 degrees thanks to the cover. All in all another excellent weeks stay.

Another brilliant week at La Haute Manceliere.
Weather pretty disappointing although it did nothing to dampen our fun or spoil the holiday.
We are a large family group who get together once a year and La Haute Manceliere fulfils everyone's individual requirements.
It's always notable each year the number of newly redecorated rooms there are, maintaining an extremely high standard throughout.
Sue, the owner, was fantastically helpful before we even arrived, organising a great car hire deal from SuperU (yes, the supermarket!!) for one of our group.
Only 51 weeks to go till we're back!

We,( my wife and two older sisters) spent nearly a week in La Haute Manceliere.
We enjoyed the very warm welcome of Susan, and were very happy with the cake and the bottle of wine, as everything was closed the day of our arrival.
Never had such a complete equipped house, with firm furniture.(excellent beds)
The place is very quiet, and a few miles away from the nearest village.
The most interesting places are in a reach of max. 1/2 hour by car, while you can enjoy the beautiful landscape.
We certainly will come back.
Thanks Susan for the nice stay at your place.

We've just returned from a week at La Haute Manceliere and already spoken to (and emailed!) several friends details of where we stayed to recommend it - and we're not easily impressed! We had a wonderful welcome with a very thoughtfully baked gluten free cake for our daughter, plus the other goodies in the fridge! Thank you!
We had taken all the usual items needed for a self catering stay, such as dishwasher tablets, tea towels, washing up liquid etc etc but everything we possibly needed plus more was provided already. The gite was spotless and absolutely perfect for what we needed. The description online was 100% accurate! The garden, pool and toys/play equipment were brilliant for our 3 children (aged 8, 6 and 2). There were also the owner's children who came and played in the pool and garden so keeping ours entertained too while we sat in the sun watching them or BBQd!!
We were shown where the local supermarket was (only 5 mins away), so were sorted from the moment we arrived.
Location wise, everywhere we wanted to go was within approx 30 min drive. We visited the lovely city of St Malo (including the fabulous aquarium), beautiful Dinan, pretty coast road from Cancale to St Malo, amazing medieval fort at Fougere, Mt St Michel - blown away by this but get there at 9am, Alligator Bay near the Mount, the local forest (Villecartier) and lots of places in between.
Had a lovely stop at Honfleur on the way back to Calais on the advice of the owner so the drive broken up nicely. Only approx 4.5-5 hours in total so easily done in one day even with the kids.
We hope to go back with family and friends soon as we only scratched the surface of things to do and see there - plus we were out and about so much we didn't utilise the pool as much as we could've done.
We were given loads of advice and suggestions on things to do (and also help when we needed some translations for eating out due to my daughter's coeliac disease).
THANKS so much for providing such a lovely gite and all your help.

We have just spent a week in Les Hirondelles. What a fabulous gite, it exceeded all our expectations by far. Susan was most welcoming , even providing a lovely home baked cake and bottle of wine, plus all the basics you need in the pantry which is always a bonus when self catering. The gite was extremely well equipped and we appreciated the free wifi to keep in touch with Australia. The pool was heated so an absolute bonus and we were not really too far from major sights. Lovely towns, fabulous markets. I just wish we could return .

I took my wife and our four kids, aged between eight and fourteen during the April half term break. The outdoor heated pool was well used by all and the comfortable, immaculately clean and well appointed cottage was a great place to relax and unwind at the end of the day. I don't think you could ask much more of the cottages, or the hospitality provided by Sue Hazelwood the proprietor. The real attraction though is the location and wealth of activities within a short distance. Horse riding, water-park, adventure trails, tree-top climbing, beaches, amazing food and picturesque surroundings in every direction. On a clear night, if you gaze at the stars you will see a million twinkle back at you: clear, pollution-free, quiet, tranquil skies - definitely planning a return before long.
