“Challenge for western style travelers but good place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2013

This is really a self service style hotel and very near the Osaki train station. The Staff speak reasonable English, but when you check in they give you your paper room key and then you must go to a Japanese type Kiosk to pre-pay for your stay. I guess that this also activates your room key. If you need water or snacks, its on the sixth and 14th floors only. IF you need laundry they have machines on one floor or you can take it to the front desk, yourself. Price is reasonable. When I returned later that night, my laundry was missing and learned that I need to go to the desk to get it. Wow.
Breakfast is limited but OK.
Room is really small, but very functional.
I would probably stay here again.

Overall
Cheaper stay (I think) as compared to Shinagawa Prince hotel. Perhaps a little inconvenience as you need to make a transfer by bus/train at Shinagawa station. But still a good stay in Tokyo. But you will need to pay extra for the gym/pool (pay per use)

Service
English speaking staff with Japanese hospitality. Need I say more?

Location
3mins walk from Osaki station. Osaki station is 1 stop away from Shinagawa Station. Narita express (NEX) runs from the airport to Shinagawa with good frequency (Either catch the 1815hrs/1848hrs) train from Narita T1 to Shinagawa with SQ flight arriving at Narita 1730hrs. Train journey is 1hour compared to the bus (same route to Shinagawa at 1.5hours). More info about NEX at http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/nex/

Oh...don't worry about taking the subway in Tokyo. English signboards are available. You will find the way. If all else fails, ask Mr Google on your smartphone.

Room
A few more pillows would be nice. Clean, standard(small) room & toilet. Wifi is free and LAN is also available without complicated connection procedures to set up.

Food
Shall not book the room with breakfast on the next trip. Not that breakfast sucks (it is served in an Italian restaurant), but its the same selection every day as in most hotel. So it gets a little boring after 2-3days. There are some other choices at "Think Park", the building next door before Osaki station for this.

Dinner can be easily solved at one of the few restaurants located at Think Park. Or, just take a train to Hammatsucho(Tokyo Tower & Tokyo Bay) / Harajuku (Huge park with a shrine + famous ramen shop nearby) / Shinbuya (should have lots of selections) / Shinagawa (Jojo en - Korean BBQ) along the Yamanote line.

The Daiwa Roynet Tokyo-Osaki is wonderful for many reasons. Among them:

- Staff speaks some English. You would do well to learn a little Japanese to impress them. They are very respectful, polite, and helpful.
- Larger rooms than average, or so I'm told by a local.
- Osaki. This is a beautiful, clean, quiet area. There are several dining options in the immediate area as well as Family Mart convenience stores. Gotanda is also nearby if you're looking for small-scale nightlife. And it's only one stop away from Shinagawa on the JR East - Yamanote line.
- IL Chianti serves up a good buffet-style breakfast in the morning.

Room can get a little warm in the spring/summer seasons. I couldn't read the kanji to know how to work the AC Unit properly. So I opened the window often and it was pleasant.

You'll want to ask for an iron if your stash is crumpled. Only thing in the room is some goofy press contraption that really doesn't work. Toilets are nice. And on that note, we close the review. Cheers.

Quite a basic hotel. The standard semi-double rooms, very clean by the way, are rather small -- 18 sq.m, so it most probably won't suite you if you and your partner plan spending the whole day in the hotel room. Although walls seem to be quite thin, soundproofing is great -- you don't hear a sound from outside your room. Located within a 5 minute walk to Osaki station, Yamanote line.

convenient and comfortable it is very close to Osaki Station. Coffee is free and there is a nice TV in a room. Some people say the restaurant is not good for breakfast, because it is a little bit expensive. If you have a breakfast, you should enter Osaki Station and find the restaurant "Beckers". They have reasonable price breakfast menus.
