New Otani Inn Tokyo
Ranked #11 of 41 Hotels / Ryokan in Shinagawa
Reviewed 13 November 2013

Those who book this hotel must not confused with New Otani Hotel (much expensive one). This one is located next to Osaki JR station, at Shinagawa. I booked a family room for 3 and a non-smoking room. No problem. The room came with 3 beds and one of it is a double bed. The room is generous size (Tokyo standard) and clean. There is a fridge and also kettle for tea. The toilet is a little small but okay for us. I will use this hotel again.

The hotel staff i.e. reception, can managed some english. you can get a train map or advise of travelling.

The location is good. It is close to Haneda airport. Even for Narita, you can take the Natrita Express to Shinagawa or Tokyo, change to Yamanote line to Osaki Station. It is also close to Hamamatsucho station where many local tours are available - just book online.

When arrive at JR Osaki station, get out using the North Exit and then East Exit. there is a short flight of stair (or use the lift) and it will lead you to the hotel. You will see the convenient store Lawson just outside the hotel. If you use the South exit, no problem, just turn left and left again passing Burger King and the hotel is on your right. The main reception is on the 3rd floor, if you arrive by taxi, you will need to take the lift from Ground floor to the 3rd floor.

From Osaki station, you can take the Rinkai line to Odaiba, or Yamanote line to many places such as Shinjuku, Harajuku, Toyko station, etc. You can ask the reception for the train map.

Next to the hotel, the are many restaurants and a supermarket (on the ground floor connected to the hotel via a couple of doors). No shortage of places to get food or buy food to have your meals in your room. There is a Daiso shop (105Yen shop) and many other on the same level as the supermarket. The Lawson shop outside the hotel (3rd floor) also do some food.

Internet access, unfortunately the free WIFI is only at the reception, i.e. 3rd floor only. If you do without registration then it is good for only 15mins, and no further access for the next 3 hours. If you want longer access then you will need registration - it is free. Only paid WIFI and LAN available in the room.

Room Tip: Ensure you have a non-smoking room if you need one.

We stayed 2 nights in a twin room. The room was spacious, well kept, clean and modern. Bed was very comfy too. There are lots of restaurants, hair salon, a big drugstore and supermarket in a building connected to the hotel. The area nearby however is pretty much a business district, with a few izakayas cater mostly for people working in that area. Breakfast was decent but always crowded. Overall it was a great experience. It's an excellent choice if you decide to stay out of the popular areas like Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku etc with the convenience of the Osaki station is just 1min away.

Many things to list, very pleasant stay with lots of amenities nearby. Staff is very attentive to your needs. Superb service as expected, but still pleasantly surprised. One thing is their own sushi bar, a bit pricey but it's well worth the money. Try the shrimps in the alcohol bowl!

Yes, this is the New Otani INN. Not the New Otani Hotel. However, for the price that you pay for it, I thought the room was quite decent. Nothing fancy and not very spacious but it was clean and tidy.

And yes, for wifi you have to go down to the lobby but I was just happy that there was wifi at all as my previous stays at other hotels did not allow me any access (unless I paid).

My favourite part of my stay there was the location. It's very close to the railway station and it's right above a plaza.

Every night you can take the elevator down and have access to the supermarket, numerous restaurants and lots of shops.

Overall, it was quite a good stay considering how cheap the rates are.

The staff were also very friendly.

Make no mistake...This is not The New Otani Tokyo...it's the New Otani INN. This is a low budget, no frills MOTEL. Amenities, decor, and even the fixture controls are from the 70's. No bell desk (which means no help w/ bags). Staff are not very friendly and certainly not as service oriented as other Japanese properties, which was surprising, as most Japanese are very prideful in their work and provide impeccable service. Upon check in, front desk staff was asked twice to make sure our room was designated as non-smoking. Both times front desk staff confirmed that the room was non-smoking. However, upon getting to our room, it smelled of smoke, an ash tray was on the desk, and a sign read..."Please refrain from smoking on bed..." Even the non smoking rooms smelled of smoke. Certainly a shame to the New Otani brand.

Shabby, dingy room with worn out carpet. Stay somewhere else, this place is waaay overpriced. They charged me $40 for a below average breakfast buffet that was poorly staffed. Food containers were empty, and slow to be refilled...it seemed that they did this on purpose to save money. I'd stay somewhere else next time, unless you like shabby with a faint smoky smell throughout the hotel.

We stayed during the summer. We upgraded to the suites in order to guarantee a non smoking room. It was worth every penny. We received special check in during which we were served tea and offered snacks. Our room was perfect. It had both a bathtub and shower. There was a glass wall separating the room that added sleekness and polish. The special floor that we were on had the added benefit of also serving snacks almost all day, a tea time and an open bar in the evening. I loved looking out over the skyline through the floor to dealing windows at night, complimentary glass of champagne in hand. All this was great but nothing can compare with the service. Incredible! Nothing was to hard or a bother. They were so sweet and went out of the way to make your stay feel special. We accidentally left our IPad in the room when we checked out and realized it at the airport waiting to catch our flight home. Called them hoping they would ship it back to the States and charge the credit card we had used for the hotel. Instead the manager of our floor and another employee drove it to us 30 min away from hotel. They have earned my appreciation and respect forever. If I am ever in Tokyo again I will only stay here.

Room Tip: It is worth every penny to upgrade to the suite area. It is a splurge but it is unforgettable.
