“Average accommodation but outstanding restaurant”
Reviewed 1 November 2013

The bedroom was adequate - spacious with balcony, clean, basic. However for the price it is good value. However, the food in the restaurant is outstandingly good and this more than made up for the room. Location is great, right by the side of the Canal du Midi.

Myself and my wife went for a meal on 16'th october, the restaurant ambience was peaceful
the service was quiet, relaxed and very professional, nothing was to much bother for the owner.
I chose pumpkin and chestnut soup,it was was fabulous, perfection,so good i did'nt have to season it. I then had veal steak in a cream sauce with veg,all cooked to perfection, for pudding I had home made nougat ice cream with a chocolat mousse,i thought i had died and gone to heaven.IT IS THE BEST MEAL I HAVE HAD IN MY LIFE.the chef is supremely talented,on no occasion did i have to season any thing, which means the chef is top quality.
The only fault i found and this seems to be quite common in restaurants in the area,is that the
front entrance and car parks are not inviting,in fact i had to walk in to the car park,to find out if this was actually was a restaurant.they could improve their business if they made their frontage inviting.SEEING IS BELIEVING.This is a must eat at restaurant.

We stayed here two nights at the end of a barging trip on the Canal du Midi. The setting is gorgeous, especially with the fall leaves on the canal, but the room and service left much to be desired. We arrived on a Saturday evening, so perhaps because the next day was Sunday, the towels in the bathroom were not changed, nor was the room cleaned or refreshed in any way. In fact, after the breakfast on Sunday, which was the usual cold fare, not a person was seen in the hotel. Our towels which we assumed would be replaced had to be resurrected from the damp heap in the tub, and we dutifully made our bed and emptied our trash! Some warning about the lack of cleaning service on Sunday ( and as we discovered, Monday as well) would have made us more careful with our towels and general tidiness. The room itself was quite odd: the toilet was in the entry hall and the sink, tub, shower were in another room down two steps through the sitting area, through the sleeping area, up two steps and voila! You could then get to the sink to wash your hands! Very strange setup. The room did have a lovely view of the vineyards and the trees along the canal and there was a pretty patio area with canal views. There is a TV, although we didn't use it, a hair dryer, a tub&shower, but beware! There is no shower curtain and the water goes everywhere in the bathroom! We did not require AC, so no comment on that. Easy walking into the small and charming town of Homps. Lively flea market on Saturday and great strolls along the lazy canal, over the bridge and through the marina area.

Room Tip: Make sure you check on service availability Sunday and Monday. They seem to shutdown on Sunday.

On a lovely spot in tiny Homps along the Canal du Midi, a popular boat harbor for those slowly cruising up the Canal.

The Auberge is on the quiet western edge of the town but easy walking distance from the few stores and restaurants.

Good food, but will need patience for the laid-back service.

No A/C in the room, so leaving the windows open to prevent suffocation leads to the incursion of a few skeeters. Be warned!

No refrigerator, but the owner kindly put some water bottles in the freezer overnight for us to take on the bike in the morning.

Find the wine 'museum' a short distance to the east along the canal for excellent wine sampling and purchase.

This is the third time we have stayed here and once more it continued to give good unobtrusive service, with a comfortable and spacious room and excellent food. It was wet so we were not able to eat outside this time, but the dining room inside had very low background music and plenty of room between the tables. The hot water took a little time to come through but was soft, plentiful and the shower enclosure spacious enough for a large and tall person. Our evening meal, the "menu du terroir" was good value and the wine in the pichet (from a "bag-in-box") was reasonable in both price and taste. Breakfast had cereal and cheese available, as well as the usual croissants, bread, juice and coffee/tea.

Like most of the guests I imagine, we were on our way through on a cycling trip (with a car also!). this was a great spot - fantastic terrace right on the canal. Shame it wasn't a bit warmer - a very intense wind was blowing along the canal relentlessly, which made the terrace a bit overly breezy (though we toughed it out and sat out there for dinner anyway!). Great rooms (big!!!) and very friendly service. Good food in general (the lamb is outstanding!) and good wine. we stayed 2 nights and really enjoyed being based there. We then took a day trip to Minerve - fabulous little wine village in the hills about 15km away - bit of a haul uphill for those of us who like the flat cycling of canals - but a really beautiful spot when you get there (and downhill all the way back!).

I stayed in Auberge de L'Arbousier with my husband during our cycling trip along Canal du Midi - it is the best place to stay along the canal - the food is amazing and great value for money. We enjoyed it so much that we tried to book again on our return but could only book for dinner as the accommodation was fully booked. We were not disappointed as we had a lovely evening sitting by the window overlooking the canal with wonderful food, wine and great hospitality. This is a lovely place to relax and recharge and the food is the best ever.
