This hotel has been recently renovated to an excellent standard, without any sacrifice of atmosphere.
All rooms are named after racing drivers (its about an hour drive from Le Mans) and ours was large with a four poster bed, three armchairs, flat screen TV, pristine en-suite and two large window overlooking the small and attractive town square. There is a pool and gardens which run down to the Loir. There is a restaurant and a bristro, we used the latter as it was a Sunday evening. Food was excellent and terrific value. The management and staff were friendly and efficient, nothing was too much trouble.
The perfect place for a stopover or short stay.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the square which suited us, I imagine rooms overlooking the garden would also be excellent.

Many hotels are rated more highly than the should be. The Hotel de France has only 2 stars, but is worth a 4 star rating. The rooms are beautifully and comfortably furnished, the staff are friendly and helpful, the food is good and the prices are reasonable. And there is a swimming pool. A great place to stay. There is no lift and the stairs are steep and fairly narrow, but the bedrooms in the main building are only one floor up.

Sadly we only spent one night in this wonderful hotel, en route home at the end of our holiday. But what a wonderful experience it was - the room was very tastefully furnished & even had tea/ coffee making facilities- so rare in France. In the restaurant we ate one of the best meals we have ever had in France - and we've had a few in our time and the friendliness and thoughtfulness of the staff and their attention to detail was 5 star. We were travelling with our dog and we're told that one small well behaved dog per room was quite acceptable (we have a German Shepherd) - no problem and she was made just as welcome as we were. A special thank you to Sally who even thought to save us a shady spot in the hotel car park so she wouldn't be too hot in the car while we had dinner. I was tempted to give the hotel a bad review as I'm just worried they may be fully booked next time we want to stay if I sing their praises too highly!

Just returned from a week in this delightful hotel. Newly refurbished in outstanding style without overdoing the links to the Le Mans racing fraternity. Its close proximity to several chateaux means it's also right for the history enthusiast. Helpful and friendly staff who speak English as well as French. The heated outdoor pool was the icing on the cake. We will return.

Room Tip: All rooms excellent - superior rooms are dedicated to racing drivers who have stayed in the past.

We have been to this hotel on previous occasions and loved the nostalgia but always a bit disappointed with the condition. However,,,,,,, really pleased it has been taken over and refurbished to an excellent standard in every way. The hotel retains its charm and French/Le Mans appeal. We stayed in the carol Shelby room, ate in the restaurant swam in the pool all of which we can definately recommend!! Sally and her team made us very welcome, and run a good hotel with a lovely homely feel. Will be back soon and hoping though you will have Air con in the rooms (as it was 30 plus outside!) Thank you!
