Mercure Paris Sud Parc du Coudray
Reviewed 21 July 2013

This hotel is relatively inexpensive and is a good choice for visiting Fontainebleau or Vaux-le-Vicompte. The room was quiet and has an inner door to keep hallway noises from disturbing you. The hotel has seen better days, however. The furniture is worn, and my non-smoking room was too smokey, causing me to change rooms to something that didn't smell.

This hotel is located a good 30 odd kms outside of Paris and is therefore a quiet little place. For people who intend to commute to the city this is a pain as it takes time and money to reach paris.

The property itself is quite nice with a heated pool, golf course, tennis courts and TT/Pool tables. The hotel is spread over a large areas and is full of greenery (albeit not the most manicured of lawns)

The rooms are modern with a double bed, large flat screen tv, a nice bathroom, kettle aircon etc.The room we stayed in had a window which opened to the lawn outside. The shade for the window did not stop the sunlight and this was a problem as the light woke me up in the morning.

The hotel has a small but smart lobby. Wi-fi is free everywhere in the hotel.

The break fast is a nice spread of continental fare.

Overall i liked this hotel with its quiet lawns and modern rooms. The staff was nice.

Room Tip: All the budget rooms seem to be similar. No spscific tip

We stayed for one night as part of a tour of the Loire Valley. Our room was roomy with a huge bed which was a little hard.
We ate in the hotel as part of the holiday price and the meal was just average but I would not have chosen the food we ate if we had had a choice. The bar prices were also quite high though we did receive a voucher for money off with our room cards.
Nice to have tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms in Europe.

The hotel was slightly better than the Mercure Tours Centre, but not up to the standard of Mercure Trier. Our room was clean and large enough, and we particularly noticed the floor covering in the bathroom as good quality for its purpose. The food - for a Riviera party of some 40 - was perfectly acceptable, but nothing special. Our one " complaint " was the absence of staff at breakfast to bring round a fresh coffer flask - I had to go to vacated tables to find a fullish one.

We thought we had bagged quite a bargain getting a four star hotel for quite a modest price. In many ways it did live up to its billing as the public areas were large and well appointed. The room was a reasonable size thought the colour scheme was rather garish and the double bed was large enough to get married and raise a family in! Lighting in the bedroom was very poor. There was a subdued light on one side of the bed but no lighting the other side which made reading impossible. Wifi was good.

It was the weekend so a very limited menu was on offer. We ate elsewhere. I am not sure who pays E17 for breakfast, presumably only those where someone else is paying, ie on expenses. We certainly did not. All in all it was a comfortable hotel, but a rather strange, characterless sort of place. Maybe it would have had a bit more life to during the week.

The hotel, situated in a walled park, looked a bit like a motorway service centre but inside the reception area was quite spacious if a little austere. The reception staff were very helpful and pleasant and I was soon in a spacious room on the ground floor. The decoration of the room was a little unimaginative but all perfectly functional; there was efficient air conditioning and one small window fitted with a device to enable you to leave the window open but to keep unwanted guests out! The bathroom again was spacious with a rather lurid colour scheme but very clean and everything worked. The lighting in the bathroom was good but not quite so good in the bedroom. Having said that, the lighting at the bedside was the best I've ever found in a hotel with a fully adjustable reading light giving an excellent bright white light for reading. Tea and coffee making facilities were provided but if you want more than one or two cups of tea a day, take your own supplies. Unfortunately, the hotel does not provide much in the way of tea/coffee supplies and also only provides cardboard cups.
The extensive breakfast buffet was provided in a large room (which could be subdivided into smaller rooms for functions) and was very good. And there was a real toaster (not those silly conveyor belt toasters that never work!) and plenty of good bread to make real toast!
The park surrounding the hotel wasn't fully explored as it was raining, but had golf and putting practice, tennis courts, football pitch, outdoor table tennis and walks for you to follow around the park. There was also a terrace and an outdoor swimming pool, which appeared to be heated as it was steaming gently in the cold morning air!

Room Tip: Ask for a non-smoking room

We felt that this hotel had probably once been quite a classy venue but that it had evidently seen better days. We chose it as being within striking distance of Paris and with its own parking, and it was fine as a stopover on our route back to Calais.

The room was clean and reasonably comfortable if rather tired. The staff on reception were friendly, as they were in the restaurant. There is only a limited menu for dinner at the weekends which is a pain as the somewhat isolated location means going out to eat involves driving, and we had no idea where to head for. The breakfast was uninspiring, and although we came down half an hour before it ended several of the choices on the buffet had already run out.

There must be hundreds of hotels on the outskirts of Paris, and I think I'd take my chances with another one rather than staying here again. Having said that, if we'd had more time to try the facilities (pool, tennis, etc.) then we might have ended up more impressed.
